Tasted for the second year in a row at the home of Grégory Barbet in St.Amour.
On 2022 & 23:
“May bottlings for Terrier and again in November for the lieu-dits. Similar volumes 22 vs 23 in Brouilly but less in Regnié as we felt the heat more here and soils become very hard when it’s dry – we all needed the same rain that came in Mâconnais and Bourgogne – but it didn’t come. Terriere, is a very French market which is still quite stable.”
The wines…
High quality and the Terrière is a great one!
2022 Beaujolais-Villages VV
Lots of colour – vines in Regnié indicated as BJV as they already have enough wine labelled Regnié.
Dark fruit on this nose. Supple, really concentrated – dark fruit but with a growing, mouth-watering, almost juicy core. This needs to be kept for 2+ years in your cellar – a finish that you chew – ‘beefy Beaujolais’ – simply excellent quality for this label but be patient for best effect!
2022 Brouilly Tradition
12 ha here in the lieu-dit of La Terrière on pink granite. Part destemmed
Extra breadth and freshness – even a little spice to this nose – suggesting but not yet quite ready to divulge some floral perfume. Supple, beautiful velvet texture – this is already a little more accessible than the BJV. Melting with delicious juicy flavour. Keep it for a time also – the concentration deserves that but it’s a delicious wine – excellent Brouilly.
An old vine selection on the plateau of this lieu-dit – poorer soil with more stones – all destemmed and in this case with elevage in foudres – the last was in tank.
A more vibrant width of dark red fruit aroma – black cherry. Also supple but in this case more melting finer texture and so long – this has a brilliantly haunting length – I find it great.
2022 Régnié La Tour de Bourdon
This is the first vintage for this new cuvée – alluvial soils here with blocks of grès – the same that they built the Bourdon tower from – the tower is actually a pile of rocks today! The lieu dit takes its name from an old château with a tower. Destemmed with elevage in stainless steel and barrels.
Lots of aromatic scale. Almost some warmth of fruit at the core of this nose. Supple, gorgeously textural – a wine of velour – just the finest grain of tannin but no dryness. Beautiful finishing width, a wine that’s very accessible and delicious too – super sophisticated in texture – a Régnié ‘Haute Couture’ – a more Burgundian style wine but what a wine!
