Fabien on 2023:
“From a quality perspective it’s good but we didn’t have the rain of the north so we made only 42 hl/ha – still not bad – but the wines are concentrated and alcoholic- So let’s see. It was a bizarre year – starting wet, we had some mildew but then everything dried and it became hot and the setting sun side of the vines had a lot dried dgrapes to triage – we harvested by hand.”
Fabien on 2022:
“About the same volume as in 2023 – another year of dryness and quite high temperatures – but good concentrated wines again. I didn’t have to do too much extraction – we are in a sequence of good vintages because the 21s were also good here. We have one cuvee that is mainly exported a little lighter in style – but it’s sold out!”
The wines…
Delicious and the Au Ecully is a great buy – in fact it’s a steal !!
On granite. This 100% destemmed, with elevage in old barrels
Plenty of colour. That’s really open, good width of energetic fruit here. Supple, wide – delicious wine of much flavour energy. Intense finishing and very long too – bravo!
2022 Beaujolais Into the wild
This on blue stone – 1918 vines planted by grandmother – half barrel elevage.
This nose is more direct and has a faint pepper. Also good width, just a little rounder and with a warmth of barrel flavour in the middle and finish. The finish is long and tasty but I’d take the first wine today. Maybe this in 2 more years…
And a blancs:
The whites account for about 10% of the volume here. BJB on granite with tank elevage, the BB on clays with barrel elevage – though no limestone:
2022 Beaujolais Blanc Les Palières
The name of the lieu-dit – Also blue stone – only tank elevage for this.
A good breadth of aroma – faintly grained in style. Hmm – plenty of volume and good juicy flavour – the middle flavours have some smoky depth to them. Finishing very well – that’s a very good blanc…
2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay Les Gouttes
Also the name of the lieu-dit – this with fermentation & elevage in barrel. Clay with decomposed limestone here.
A narrower but deeper nose. Larger scale and finer texture too. I don’t see any barrel flavour – finishing a little saline and ripe but still with a slowly mouth-watering style – that’s very good!
