I don’t seem to visit Alexandrine enough – but when I do it’s like seeing an old friend – or even better than that – an old friend who has great wine!
Alexandrine on 2023:
“I’m delighted. But boy did I have to work in 23 – the selection of grapes too at harvest time – that was the essence of the year! But I have some great things – but not all of the grapes needed triage I had some beautiful grapes too – and the maturity was fine. I’m enchanted”
Alexandrine on 2022:
“You can say that it was an easier vintage but I made a green harvest – okay not strictly green harvest- I remove things as the grapes start to grow – things that don’t please me. Up to the rain of the 22nd of June it was a bit too hot and dry – but that rain meant that we didn’t have any blockage of maturity – and we had the necessary energy and balance in the grapes. I think that in 2022 I did everything I could to make the best wine – they are bottled now and they are fresh, crunchy and joyous I think!”
The wines…
Alexandrine never undersells her wines – but why should she – anyone who has purchased over the years will be supremely happy…
2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles-Vignes
Over 80 years old now
A small, shy width but with the impression of silk. Direct, open, faintly grained with tannin but what mobile and engaging depth of flavour. And then holding with a width of almost mineral finishing flavour. That’s delicious and with a structure to wait 10 years if you don’t want to drink it today!
2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice
What a fine and quite vertical nose – such depth and still with great floral top notes. There’s extra depth to this flavour – texturally too – a fine velvet with a mm of cushion. Floral-infused flavour. That’s a super impressive wine – and I love it!
A fine and airy width of aroma. Extra in all directions – less padding and framed with a micro-grain of tannin. The clarity and almost fluidity of this flavour is really top. I love this too – it’s my new favourite!
This cuvée of millerandes is a blend from 6 different parcels.
The most open of these noses – finesse and perfume – that’s a great nose. Direct, lithe muscle – this is a great villages Gevrey. Supple, flexing its muscle. Texturally involving. Gorgeously flavoured – bravo – of course, it’s my new, new favourite !!
And le white:
2022 Marsannay Champs Perdrix Blanc
Large scale, energetic, toasty, but also a hint floral too. Hmm, incisive, mineral, slowly growing with energy. Even a little fizz of finishing energy on the tip of my tongue. I’d want to keep this 3-5 years years, I think – it’s complex and engaging – maybe I will love it with time – certainly an excellent Mrarsannay Blanc! The finish is calmer and delicious! Yum!
