Cosima on 2023:
“It was complicated we were ready for high temperatures but in the end, it wasn’t so bad but a combination of quite a lot of weeds in the vines and some hail meant that the yields were not particularly high and we had to do a lot of triage because of that hail…”
Cosima on 2022:
“I’m very happy – we have wines that we should wait for, but that’s okay I’m commercialising the wines slower too so that they are more ready when they hit the market. I’m still selling a few 21s right now and only the first of the 22s – indeed, not all have been bottled yet. The vinifications were quite easy – compared to, for example, 2020…”
The wines…
The best result ever at this domaine? Well done !!
There are new labels to celebrate that all the wines are now certified organic…
2022 Beaujolais-Lantignié Aux Saules
Two types of granite – south-facing. ‘100 sheep in the vines but only for 2 days to attack the weeds but not long enough to make much of a change in the soil.’ Some young vines in this, this year.
A pretty nose of airy red fruit. Juicy, open wine, slightly saline – and just so tasty – that’s almost a vin dangereux. Love it – simply excellent!
On blue-stone, three parcels but assembled for one cuvée – semi-carbonic with whole clusters. With the same vinification, started with a pied de cuve this year…
Another very pretty nose – this time the fruit is a little more generous and framed by some floral accents – nice! Open, mouth-watering again – a wine that has a little more linear style and is beautifully textured – the finishing concentration is more overt and impressive – hmm – I think this a great Lantiné – bravo!
Third vintage for this. An assembly of the previous 2 terroirs with longer extraction – longer barrel elevage but old barrels – so shown 1 year later.
A more open freshness – extra complexity, even a little graphite on this floral nose. Open, mouth-filling with energy but a cool and very classy style – a really sophisticated wine – with slowly opening extra dimensions of finishing flavour – a hint of salinity here too. I love this discreet but very long finish. I think that’s potentially a great 21…
A white:
2022 Beaujolais Lantignié Blanc
Really open, lots of apple freshness – but not the bruised, oxidised, style of apple – really inviting. Open – mouth-filling cool and incisive – a mix of impressions not all that sync together today but still… The finish is a little more mineral but in a great sense – no rigour, just delicious flavour, slowly fading…
And back to a red that’s already botted ‘ready for the Spring:’:
2023(!) Beaujolais Carbonique
Lantignié vines but labelled Beaujolais. No added sulfur for this cuvée…
An open freshness – red fruit. Hmm – there is still concentration here but a juicy freshness too – this slightly generous fruit flavour making for a slightly dangerous wine – it will be drunk rather quickly – the finish clean, delicious and moreish!
