Anthony on 2023:
“Happy – but we have concentrated wine. Not too high alcohols though – nice maturity and we had quite a lot less rain than northern Beaujolais. But the vines stayed green – maybe it’s our organic approach. We brought in the grapes only during the cooler part of the day and had no problems in the cuverie – the temperature control in the cuverie helped I think. Nothing to triage almost and helped by no hail!”
Anthony on 2022:
“All bottled. About the same volume as in 2023 – or maybe slightly more in 23. A year of dryness so not too many treatments were needed – and another vintage where, fortunately, we weren’t in the path of any large storms. So happy again.”
The wines…
Great red wines for the prices at this address !!
2022 Beaujolais Blanc Pierres d’Orées Perle du Chateau
Argilo-calcaire and marne soils – usually 12 months elevage for this one.
A nicely direct nose, supple at the edges. In the mouth too – a hint of generosity but still sleek and nicely textured. Subly broader and quite mineral, with almost a little smokiness to this minerality.
An assembly of many terroirs – none granite. 12 months elevage on lees in cement tanks.
A very attractive darkly fruited nose with perfumed top notes – yes! Supple, slightly generous but with a nicely incisive almost crunchy fruit width. Delicious slightly graphitic mineral finish. Beautiful Beaujolais – and completely delicious. €10.50, organic, direct from the domaine – a steal!
On blue schist.
A more direct and assertive fruit – clean-edged and attractive. Broader and beautifully silky – you can sense a little extra flavour from the barrel – a creaminess. A more sophisticated wine alround. Bravo – keep it a year for some of the creaminess to fade – and only 13 Euros.
2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir ‘Les Alluets & Le Suc’
Named after the two parcels. 12 months of elevage – 4-5 year-old barrels.
A broader depth of more generous, almost cushioned, aroma. Larger scale, softer structure – no overt barrel references- A large, fine, finish. 18 euros but you get what you pay for!
