“The week I was on holiday in mid-August, we got hailed – and not the first time in 2023! But the charge of grapes was quite high before the hail so the end yield still wasn’t too bad – but with the worst touched I chose to make some crémant. For the others, I made a slightly shorter cuvaison and didn’t notice any problems with the wines. Still, it was a sunny year like 22 – 22 was more linear, 23 was more up and down in temperatures. I already made a couple of 23 bottlings in the last 2 weeks as the stock of 22s is already small.”

“2022 was an easier year, except that we didn’t have a lot of juice in the grapes – but it’s generally a more consistent vintage even if the volumes were a bit low. There was some rain around the harvest-time, but effectively it came a bit too late to have any effect. Another 10 hl/ha and I’d sign up for it again for this year! ”
The wines…
A pleasure to taste these wines – some great wines this year !!
Plenty of colour. This nose is more direct than wide – dark fruited and with a very pretty floral. That’s broad over the palate and with a lovely texture – delicious wine – bravo – just too easy to drink already!
2023(!) Morgon Vieilles-Vignes
A little more direct and attractively airy – less overtly floral in this case. Broad and silky – the tannin drying a little more. More finishing intensity. Very nice fruit flavour though – very yum!
Also lots of colour. A simmering depth of dark fruit – ooh, that impresses. Fresh, fluid, and energetic. Less generous than the 23 today but built beautifully – there’s more structure here than the 23 and you should wait a year or two – but what a beautiful wine – simply excellent, potentially great.
Pretty and fine – this shows more purity and precision compared to the 23. So wide, so beautifully textured – so perfumed. Certainly a great wine – the architecture is there but not really any strictness. I love it – bravo!
2021 Chiroubles
I extracted quite long but not at a high temperature
A tighter nose – but no gentian. In the mouth, broad and delicious – a modestly rustic tannin vs the the younger wines – but this is very tasty and is a simply excellent 21.
2019 Morgon Vieilles-Vignes
A slightly rounder nose after the 2021, with some maturity starting to show. Hmm – the fluidity of the vintage, the fruit now more complex, still a tiny grain of tannin. This has a beautiful purity, a width, of fruit flavour. Plenty of dimensions here and holding very well. Yes, that’s at least excellent !!
