Tano on 2023:
We are very happy because we find that we have very nice wines with the bonus of a bit more volume than other recent vintages – still only a bit more than 50 hl/ha vs our average 45 hl/ha as we have a lot of old vines. The overall volume was restricted by some of hail in Morgon.

Tano on 2022:
We had some hail again – but that didn’t stop us from producing a new cuvée ‘Troisieme Ligne’ – i.e. for me, my father and my grandfather. Not all the wines have been bottled – one or two cuvées were slow to finish fermenting their sugars but generally, all was fine in the wine-making. The market for the wines is also good right now.

The wines…

I visited this domaine for the first time last year, tasting 2021s. I felt the potential but they had the greens of the vintage in many wines – I think I made the right call to return though, the 2022s are lovely here – delicious and excellent!

2022 Regnié La Plaigne 3ème ligne
A parcel selection, prefermentation maceration – no added yeasts – looking for a wine with not too much extraction for early drinking – elevage in concrete tanks and just a small amount of sulffur before bottling.
A good freshness of darker red fruit. Supple, concentrated but properly structured and with a lovely texture. A finish that’s a bit more mineral, slightly graphite in style. I’d keep this for 1-2 years before drinking but it’s beautifully constructed.

2022 Beaujolais Villages Cuvée Croix Penet
Not yet labelled as such but a new label with Beaujolais Lantignié will come
A bit more width and energy to this nose, and slightly redder fruit here. Large scale with extra and more open dimensions of flavour – a bit of carbonic style but this is already completely delicious – I don’t think I’d be waiting to drink this one 😉

2022 Brouilly Terres Amoureuses
‘It has this name as the soil here sticks so well to your boots!’ Vines with 40 and 60 years of age.
A bit more higher-toned airiness to this nose – a little floral perfume is also present. More direct and fluid but here is concentration too, framed with a tiny grain of tannin and fine finishing complexity. Not the most energy in the finish but this remains a very well-balanced and delicious wine – a proper cru – it’s super.

2022 Regnié La Bruyeres
The vines around the domaine – 2.3 ha – the historic parcel of the domaine – all worked by hand. ‘There was a bit of hail but the dryness just dropped those grapes after – it didn’t affect the quality. It’s not so long ago that this was labelled Beaujolais-Regnié’
Higher toned – really attractively floral-perfumed nose – yes! Energy and a very fluid delivery of complex flavour – another wine framed with some tannin and whilst there’s no grain here there’s a slight dryness – so keep patience a year or two before drinking. But this has beautiful perfumed flavour and will reward your drinking for at least a dozen years. Lots of finishing power and finishing very long with some modest finishing bitters… That’s an excellent wine!

2022 Regnié Nuances de Grès
The cuvée with jar elevage – to be bottled ‘not before March’. It has 1 year in the jar/amphora.
A fine, almost seamless, width of perfumed fruit – not large-scaled but really inviting. Some gas – but what a volume of cool energetic fruit – again with a small wash of tannin over the palate – less drying than the last – you could drink it now. Fluid, gorgeous, fine and intense – great finishing – that’s really excellent Regnié

2022 Morgon Douby Vieilles-Vignes
Vines of about 60 – ‘we don’t normally write it but for some people they are really look for that.’
Hmm – this is much higher toned and floral – supported by a little barrel (demi-muid) too. Broad and fluid once more – so super energy and texture over the palate then a different style of more direct, finishing intensity. Very different but also excellent.

2022 Regnié Les Compagnons du Toine
This with barrel elevage instead of the demi-muids of the last wine.
A width of aroma, faintly textured and slightly creamy from the barrels. Here is a larger scale to the structure – the architecture – all framed by some micro-grained tannin, tannin that has a subtle dryness but is insufficient that you couldn’t drink this wine already today. The flavour of the barrel is present but of modest proportions – I think in 2-3 years you will hardly notice it. Another wine of energy and flavour dimensions – also excellent!
