Thomas on his recent vintages:
“2022 was a small harvest because of the dryness but is a rich and early vintage. In 2023 the vinifications were not bad but on the other hand, the volume was quite low – I have an old domaine with old vines, add converting to organic too – it isn’t simple with old vines that have had a long ‘conventional’ culture. I think the hot recent vintages have made the vines a little fragile too – so 30 hl/ha. We had plenty of rain around Regnié in 2023 – but not that much in Regnié itself..”

Thomas has acquired an extra half hectare for this 2024 vintage – which fits to his philosophy – i.e. it’s just a short walk from the domain at the centre of Regnié!

Tasty wines from an interesting ‘small’ producer…

2022 Tomix, Regnié
This is the cuvée for early drinking so bottled early. Clean and pure. Open in the mouth, a small cushion to the texture with faint finishing – but attractive – bitters. Tasty wine with a nice energy.

2022 Thomas Rivier, Régnié
This the cuvée with a little more structure which sees some time in old 228-litre barrels – about 30%. There is still a small amount of 21 that remains but Thomas is just slowly starting to bring this wine to the market.
A nose of both depth and more concentration. More obvious concentration and more mouth-filling. The finish also with small bitters is more dominated by the fruit than the Tomix – holding really well with a floral accent. That’s a delicious wine.
