Matthieu on 2022:
Happy, we had a few more grapes in 22 but they were small grapes and I think it’s a vintage that shows that vines, organically managed suffer much less from the meteorological differences vs those with roots close to the surface. And if you don’t have grapes, what do you have? – It’s more durable. We didn’t have a large volume but we had a good volume – the grapes more resembled pinot than gamay this year. We were up to 100 harvesters per day to try and bring as much in as possible with the ‘perfect’ (for us) timing.

Matthieu on 2021:
12.5° and nice energy – what does a cold vintage mean? – we have the maturity that previous generations would never see.

The wines…

Super wines – many worth a special search in 2021!

2021 Morgon
This is the sulfur version
Hmm, that’s a nicely vibrant red fruit – pure and attractive. Round in the mouth, very faintly tannic – but velvet texture. A beautifully widening and delicious finish – that’s a great wine.
2021 Morgon (Nature)
The no-sulfur version
A rounder, fuller nose. In the mouth a slightly finer, more architectural shape – the finish more direct and fading – such an impressive difference – but also great!

It’s like twins but they went to different schools!

2021 Le Beaujolais
The domaine’s youngest vines – but actually already 20 years old, and in this vintage the replacement for their Raisins Gauloises cuvée. Elevage in stainless steel. These grapes from close to the domaine in Corcelles – a contract.
Plenty of pyrazine complexity. Energetic, complex – juicy, delicious wine the finish showing the greens But this remains a super mouthful of wine.

2021 Morgon Roche du Py Cuvée Camille
Hmm – broader, finer nose, very perfumed. Direct, cool, juicy, delicious wine – no green this time! Bravo! Direct and fine finishing – not a large finish but a haunting one.
2022(!) Le Beaujolais
This has a wide and freshly perfumed nose. More cushioned, supple, structured – it’s a young wine but a very delicious one too – you should wait a little while – if you can! For the label, bravo!

2022(!) Les Raisins Gauloisses
Always a cuvée of triage now with some young vine produce too – so with a quick carbonic fermentation.
Open, fresh a hint more structural nose. A bit more structural in the mouth too, more direct but far, far, from austere – easy finishing – simply a delicious wine.

And for the road…

2016 Morgon (Nature)
A more modest volume of aroma but fine and attractive. Broad, fresh, a faint tannin frames the flavour – juicy flavour – but there’s no grain – the last flavours are intense and fine – delicious.

2016 Morgon
No, I don’t really have a favourite – young I tend to prefer the wine without sulfur but with age it really depends on the vintage.
A broader nose with a little vibration of energy, becoming more direct. Like the young wines, the older ones also very different – juicy, the tannin less visible but still present. More waves of finishing flavour.
