Cédric on 2022:
In 22 we had some big hailstones one day but in general, it’s a super year – we had double the normal rainfall in June – probably just as well as it was so dry in July – we also had about 40 mm during the harvest – a good 40 hl/ha here with a style that might reflect the 2020s a little. The BJ Lantignie has already been bottled – before some of the 21s!

Cédric on 2021:
Only 20% less volume – it’s not like some other parts of Burgundy. We had more rain than they have seen for 40 years but we still had grapes – so it wasn’t too much rain! 23rd September was our harvest date – the 13th-23rd it rained almost without stopping – but then we harvested only in the sunshine…

The wines…

What a great result here – wines of depth and complexity and no green notes – well-done!

2021 Régnié, Chamodère
Only about 20% barrel but as this wine had a bit more length of elevage.
A round, cushioned, generous nose – almost a little chocolate aroma. Supple, silky, cooler fruited than the nose suggests – slightly spiced but delicious and finishing quite intense with a little salinity – a faint chocolate in the finish here too – delicious wine.

2021 Régnié Diaclase
It’s a big block of vines behind that they but split into 9 different sectors, this from the higher part. In bottle for not quite 4 weeks
Soma extra freshness here – supple at the core – a fine invitation. More direct and silky – lots of very fine tannin without dryness – a velour texture. Properly ripe, properly fresh and properly long – proper Beaujolais – bravo!
2021 Régnié Sous la Croix
The high part of the parcel – not much soil here, just 20-30cm over the granite. A wine that’s completely destemmed for the fermentation.
Plenty of reduction here but savoury, not rubbery – all elevage without sulfur. Very silky again, mobile flavour, very classy flavour – the reduction holding longer in the flavours than the aromas. But open and beautifully textured in the finishing flavours. The finish with some modest oak flavour but never of the creamy style. I think this is potentially a great wine too. Carafe if opening today or just wait 3+ years…
2022(!) Beaujolais-Lantignié l’Amourgandise
Bottled 11 January – ‘Early but only a couple of weeks early – the weather had been cold and that always works well for the bottling – so I decided it was time’
A vibrant width of fruit, darker fruit. Mouth-filling, supple dark-fruited concentration – serious wine in a far too accessible package – bravo!

2022(!) Beaujolais Rosé Coccinelles
Bottled same day as previous – fresh and hyper-attractive pink/red fruit nose. Open, not the impact of the red but delicious and with a nice peak of flavour before fading away in the finish with a faint tannin.

2021 Beaujolais Villages Blanc Axiome
The 22 of this is still fermenting. This bottled in June.
Slightly creamy, some ripeness of fruit – almost in the direction of mirabelles. Direct, mineral, full of flavour – no rigour or harshness – broad and mouth-watering in the finish. The oak is currently a little forward for my taste but this is a very well executed wine – more than very good – it’s an excellent BJV Blanc!
