Jean-Louis on 2021:
“Usually, we produce 25-30 hl/ha here. We made only 13 hl/ha in 2021. All that we had, is pretty much sold out. We were hailed in 2022 too – we lost about 30% in Fleurie from that storm.”
The wines…
Super wines and wines to be patient with in this vintage, too.
2021 Brouilly Cuvée Vieilles Vignes
‘We normally get a bit more from here than in Fleurie but this year only 12 hl/ha’
Hmm – a nice, fine direct red fruit note – that’s very attractive. Hmm, wide, clean, pretty red fruits with only a suggestion of tannin – mouth-watering and attractive – far too easy to drink!
2021 Fleurie Chapelle de Bois
Hmm – a more intense width of red perfume – that’s lovely. Mouth-filling again, slightly softer texture but with lots of energy and intensity – that’s a wine that I’d wait a little while before opening – but it’s a super wine!
Extra breadth and a more vibrant almost dynamic aromatic energy. More direct. The intensity growing and growing – width and intensity growing too – another wine that’s vibrantly delicious and that I’d wait another year to open… Probably a great one!
2020(!) Brouilly Cuvée Vieilles Vignes
This fermented for a year – it finished the same time as the 21!
Large and round in the mouth – it’s 15° – you wouldn’t think so but it’s a ripe one. Non-standard for here but too tasty.
2020(!) Fleurie Chapelle de Bois
Full, vibrant almost a cushion to this nose. Hmm – such energy – and complexity – full but never hard – super wine – despite 14.5°
2020(!) Fleurie Clos de la Grand Cour Vieilles-Vignes
A little less colour ‘yes and slightly less alcohol,’ laughs JL. A beautiful nose of volume – depth and height. A beautiful wine!
