David on 2021:
I had the hail here in 2021, because of that I didn’t sell much to the négociants – so I haven’t quite sold out of things. Roughly half a harvest though – but in some places two-thirds. I used a triage table and I destemmed 2/3rds – what did us good was the three weeks of perfect weather that led up to the harvest because before that there was really too much rain!

The wines…

A fabulous address for 2021s – search them out!

2022 Beaujolais Villages Rosé
Simply a beautiful, highly attractive rosé nose – part violets and super inviting. Broad and mineral, just enough sweetness, precise and no rigour. Top-level!
2021 Beaujolais Villages
A large part of the vines are around the house and domaine here, whereas the Brouilly is in Odénas
That’s really a fine nose – the perfume of violets coming through. Concentrated, mouth-filling – beautiful, clean, attractive fruit. A top villages – so pure and precise the finish decaying only very slowly. Bravo!
2021 Brouilly
Super perfume – ooh that’s so good – another level of vibrancy. Here the structure is more prevalent but the wine is also more juicy – this is for keeping a short extra time – but that’s super: Darker fruited, framed with a little tannin but with zero faults – clean and impressive – bravo – très long!

2020 Beaujolais Villages Fut de Chêne
10 months in barrel then around a month in tank before bottling. This the current commercial vintage.
This has a broad and rather creamy aromatic. Great shape and energy in the mouth – a little more structure and plenty of grainless tannin. Lots and lots of creaminess from the elevage here. Not my style of wine but a completely delicious one.

2022 Beaujolais Villages Nouveau Sans sulfite ajouter
The no sulfur wine.
Another wine with a fine perfume – a suggestion less pure than the sulfured wines – but I’m splitting hairs! Hmm – a cushioned, great texture – gorgeously generous but never heavy – moreish and delicious – simply a super win. Bravo!
