Stéphane on 2021:
“We are certainly low on volume in 21 – the wines clearly lacked weight at the start of their elevage but they grew, maybe our barrels helped a bit too, but I think of them as typical Moulin à Vent now – they are starting to show very well – obviously not the opulence of the other recent vintages but a style that I like a lot.”
There has been some updating in the cellar – it looks good!
The wines…
For the second vintage in a row – two very good wines followed by a great Rchegrès!
2021 Moulin à Vent ‘Tradition’
A nice width of cushioned aroma. In the mouth, complex, round and supple but maybe a faint hint of green in the complexity – a slight austerity but length and depth of good flavour. Keep this 2 years it will be very good.
2021 Moulin à Vent La Rochelle
65-year-old vines just at the foot of Roche Grès.
A broader, sweeter width of aroma – complex and faintly accented by the creamy barrel. Mouth-filling a texture of velvet, growing broader over the palate – good complexity, tasty wine. Long, quite mineral flavour… More than very good.
Like the Rochelle – lots of colour. Complex, fresh, dark nose. The elevage far less visible – here the wine is the full focus – Great shape, cool flavour -a wine that needs to open but a great one! So complex finishing and never overpowering.
