Here’s a domaine that covers 15 hectares. From here, they have not only the view of Régnié itself, but also a view of Mont Blanc (sometimes) and the Mont of Côte de Brouilly. ‘We, always have about 13.5 ha in production here – the other part being replanted or waiting to come into production.‘ Patrick has been here for 40 years and is now working with his son, Antione – or Tano for short – but there have been generations of the family here in Régnié.

And on their recent vintages:
In 2022 we lost some to the localized hail in Régnié – but it’s a vintage that still brought about 40 hl/ha. In 2021 we had a little frost but here we have more wind – so we were not too badly affected – at least compared to some of our neighbours. The major market for our wines is here in France – it’s only a small amount that’s exported – it’s the cavistes of France are the major buyers.

The wines…

Not an easy vintage to judge a domaine on – not with the pyrazine accent of many of the wines – but I think there is some good stuff here!

There’s a white BJV Blanc here – normally – there is none in 2021:

2021 Brouilly Terres Amoureuses
Parcels with plenty of clay.
Plenty of pyrazine on this nose. Less overt green in the round, nicely alive, flavours. Juicy finishing.

2021 Regnié La Bruyeres
The vines around the domaine – the historic parcel of the domaine – all worked by hand.
More colour. Open, floral, nothing overtly green – a nice invitation. More depth to this flavour – growing in intensity too. I like both the shape and flavour. Nicely stony finishing.

2021 Regnié Nuances de Grès
The cuvée with jar elevage – to be bottled tomorrow. It has 1 year in the jar/amphora.
Plenty of colour. Another nose with some pyrazine complexity but heading in a floral direction. In the mouth sweet and juicy – floral – gentian – very nice finishing complexity with a small frame of tannin deep into the finish. That’s very good.

2021 Morgon Douby
12 months in 500-litre barrels of 10-12 years old – previously used for Pouilly-Fuissé…
Plenty of airy freshness – again with some pyrazine in the aromas but again tending towards a more floral gentian presentation. Round, with plenty of concentration – mouth-watering – I really like the finishing flavour here – that’s a really good wine for the vintage – excellent for those not sensitive to the pyrazines.

2021 Regnié Les Compagnons du Toine
12 months in 228-litre barrels – 5-10 year-old barrels. Bottled at the end of 2022.
Hmm – the oak elevage very effectively masks the pyrazine – this showing a silky width of darker cherry fruit. It may not be visible in the aromas but there’s a little oak in the flavours and a roundness to these flavours but still an attractive wine of fine flavour and length – a small texture of tannin right at the end.

And for the road:

2019 Regnié Cuvée Canicule
There’s none of this in 21 – no surprise given the name but here’s a 19 for an idea. More than 20 months of elevage in this case with about 25% new oak.
Not a wide nose but there’s lots of depth to this – and no obvious oak. Concentrated, but still lots of freshness, there’s some slight salinity in this complexity. The tannin is ‘present’ but shows hardly any grain and no dryness. Not an obvious oak note to be seen. Long finishing. That’s very well done.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
