Anaïs has been here since 2021 – so we can taste her first vintage!
Anaïs is originally from Bresse – her father worked in agriculture there. Anaïs always loved wine and her grandfather had a few vines and made some of his own wine. Anaïs did a stage with Frédéric Berne and ended up staying there for a year. Fred knew the vigneron here in Lantignié who was retiring with no-one to pass the domaine onto – so it worked out well for Anaïs.
There are vines and a cuverie which are now en fermage with Anaïs.
From the start, Anaïs has been part of the Beaujolais-Lantignié association, starting with 2.5 hectares and now already has 5.5 hectares of vines – all the work done by herself. The original plantations were directly moved into organic conversion – “Yes, 2021 was very sportive” she jokes.
“I recovered a lot of old vines – some 90 years old – unfortunately, I’ll have to replace a lot of them as their production is so low… The 60-year-olds are still energetic enough to work on – they were all conventionally worked before so I’m working with a light touch with the plough for now – all done by horse.”
Anaïs on 2022 and 2021:
“There was a little 2021 frost in the young vines but they are vigorous so they recovered well – unlike in 2022 where they were up against the dryness. So I actually made more in 2021 than in 2022. In my first year, I sold a little wine in bulk and some grapes too. In 2022 I only sold grapes – to keep the finances running. The 21s that were bottled here are all sold – a mix of French and export markets. I’m happy!”
The wines…
A super debut. I’m sure that these will be wines to follow!
There are three cuvées – the Beaujolais Nouveau is long gone – and here are the other two:
2021 Beaujolais-Lantignié
10 days of maceration, no destemming. Concrete elevage
Plenty of colour. The nose is deep and dark. In the mouth sinuous, silky – deep and interesting with dark and pure fruit. Not a hint of green. An easy wine but a perfectly presented one.
2021 Régnié
‘2 extra days of maceration and some barrel elevage to round the tannins – I worried about too much oak flavour so only did half the wine like that.’
Darker colour and darker fruit too – a deeper register of aroma. Supple, textured – more of velour – the tannin present but not drying. Broadening over the palate – there’s more material here. Very good!
