Louis-Clement on 2022:
“In 2022 I was very happy with the quality of the juice – but the weather was a bit too warm and dry so I lost about one-third of the volume. Harvesting began 18 August – and I finished in August too – it was the same in 2020 – it’s not a good sign – also not for our holidays! But I harvested with some freshness and between 12° and 13°. The wines look good and haven’t yet seen any sulfur.”
Louis-Clement on 2021:
“I lost a little – but only a little – due to the frost, and not around the house (Bottière) – so I still made some wine. Tasty, lighter wines of 11-11.5° and they are almost all sold out. I changed the press to an old-style wooden press in this vintage – producing only a fine lees – I think more class! It’s a vintage that I’d rather drink than sell and it reminds me a little of 2016.”

Always a pleasure to taste with Louis-Clement and his 21s were delicious. The Vayolette is worth a special search if you are a fan of this style of low-intervention wine.
2021 Beaujolais Villages Les Trois Verres
Chapelle de Guinchay – half a hectare of vines that belong to the family of Jules Chauvet.
Easy, cushioned red fruit. Some gas but the wine is fresh, mouth-filling and energetic. Some finishing bitters and intensity. A wine that asks you to take another sip. ‘The gas is voluntary and helps with the lightness and energy.‘
2021 Juliénas La Bottière
Concrete elevage but in the future maybe with more stainless steel.
Starting wth a light reduction – making the wine seem more savoury – slowly filling the glass, adding cushioning and more red fruit. Broad, more considered, more clarity of flavour too. Direct, clean and delicious finishing – some chalky finishing texture. This is super.
From the west of the appellation on a plain south-facing, steep slope, the soil is bluestone. Have a 3ha parcel. ‘The best juice in 2021! 30 days of maceration – not touched – it was an explosion of flowers – the terroir is there!’
More colour. More energy too – the fruit slightly darker red in complexion. Gas but here is ultra-pure and energetic flavour – cool fruit – with clarity. That’s a beautiful wine – let it calm and lose some of the gas and I think it will be a great one! Pure – ‘sapid’
