It now seems traditional that I taste in the open-air – indeed the full sun – with Guillaume, it always seems sunny when I visit here. But I do admit to having cold hands whilst typing this year!

Guillaume on 2022:
It’s okay – we lost a lot of our white to hail and the frost impacted the volume of the reds – 25 hl/ha was about the average – we really attacked the red harvest about the 18th September – but with super maturity though.

Guillaume on 2021:
35 hl/ha for the whites, we had lost a few parts in the bottom of the hill to the frost – but we can’t complain some of the colleagues had next to nothing. Commercially we are juggling the sales as there are always new markets so a little extra volume in 2023 would be nice!

The wines…

High quality – I think, at the same stage, their 2020s were greater but this is a super result – and no wines with greens…

2021 Beaujolais Villages Blanc Clos des Muriers
Quite young vines from Blac – a plateau of 300m on argilo-calcaire. 12 months elevage, using barrels ex a good domaine in Rully.
A good, forward freshness of aroma. Round, supple, comfortable wine – but with a proper intensity of finishing flavour – fruit and delicious here – that’s very good. ‘Yes the 2020 of this is drinking really well now, it’s passed through the agrume stage and is nice and precise.’

2021 Côte de Brouilly La Démarrante
Principally our young vines with concrete elevage – it’s for the friends.
Starting a little smoky and reductive. In the mouth too a hint of reduction but slowly expanding over the palate with style, slowly more insistent and with a very fine finishing fruit – even a hint floral – simply lovely.

2021 Côte de Brouilly Brulhié
Fuller, redder Aaromatics – larger scale too. More direct, mineral and with extra clarity. Vibrant, and energetic in these super finishing flavours again – that’s a super wine with many pretty floral references.

2021 Côte de Brouilly Le Pavé
More colour here. Extra impact and depth of aroma. In the mouth it follows with extra density – a wine that needs to open out more but has lots in reserve – faintly saline too in the complexity – darker fruit, still mineral. Classy wine – wait maybe 2 years for this. A faint frame of finishing tannin too – it’s not going on sale before the end of the year.

2021 Côte de Brouilly L’Héronde
The vines below the domaine buildings. This is not yet bottled – they are currently on the 2020
Extra colour again. A more seamless width of darker fruit. Mouth-filling concentrated wine – a little graphite minerality and a slowly growing base of tannin – velour texture. Here is a top wine – you will have to wait of course, but this is lovely stuff.
