A domaine exploiting 27 hectares with 22 different appellations – so quite an important domaine, even by Vosne standards.
Sophie on her recent vintages:
“Nothing from 2022 is bottled – I think it was a fantastic year in the vines with no problems! I think it’s a high quality vintage unlike the amount of triage we had to deal with in 2023! On the other hand, 2022 needed watching the cuverie as the wines were far from stable depending on the weather – but I’m happy with how they look today – and they are energetic and rather fresh for the weather. A vintage that really harmonised with extra elevage we think.”
The wines…
Just a completely delicious range in 2022.
2022 Chambolle-Musigny
4 parcels – Fouchères being the largest.
Round, silken – a little generosity but the oak is still prominent today. Large but with cool fruit; fluid even, which brings a fine balance.
2022 Nuits St.Georges
2 parcels – Lavières and Allots – on the Vosne side of Nuits
A little tighter in the higher tones, but here is a glossy and fine width of fresh ripe dark red fruit. Open, growing with florals in the fruit, mouth-watering again. Structured but not tannic – I like the shape and extra minerality here – just the tip of the tongue showing the tannin. That’s less showy than the Chambolle but leaves a very lovely impression…
2022 Vosne-Romanée
3 lieu-dits assembled; Les Communes and two more parcels closer to the cemetery and the Clos de Vougeot
Hmm – that’s beautifully fragrant, slightly creamy but really fine. Large scale in the mouth and just delicious – very slowly fading.
A famous climat – in other hands – how does this stack up?
Hmm, that’s a wine of finesse and florals – it’s beautiful. A little more direct than the previous, structured but extra long too. Fantastic wine!
2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Suchots
2 parcels, one on the top part near RSV, the other right in the middle of the lower part.
A larger and obviously floral nose. Also a cool width, there’s a velvet texture from the tannin. Very fine and completely delicious.
2022 Nuits St.Georges 1er Boudots
Vines next to Malconsorts
Airy, creamy – lots of concentration. Large scale – a tannin that rises from the depth – more than can be seen in the Vosnes – but the fruit is more Vosne than Nuits. Excellent wine…
2022 Echézeaux du Dessous
Really a perfume – beautifully aromatic this vintage – and you see hardly any of the 50% new barrel. Hmm – that’s so wide, really concentrated but a wine for waiting for sure – large scale and really impressive. Finishing with plenty of tannin though . Keep 5 years – potentially it will be even better after 15 !!
