“For the 2023 harvest I was very happy – it’s our second good vintage – like 2022.
“I’ve racked a couple of the 22s because the rain has been so bad that I had to find some work in the cuverie! But no, none of the wines will be bottled until next year. Most of the volumes were about the same in 2022 and 2023, but the Côte de Nuits Village had more in 2023. It wasn’t too sunny a year in 2022 but it was dry – a big rainstorm came in June and it seemed a bit of a disaster with some small hail in Fixin and Gevrey – but it meant that in the end no green harvest was needed! We have wines with nice red fruits and vibrant energy – but not over full in body. In 2022 I had 107 barrels vs just 63 in 2021…”

A super range – and the differentiation of the village wines is a lesson in terroir – like every year!
2022 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Cuvée Maelie
Named for Guillaume’s daughter. Vines from Conceour, just above Vosne-Romanée; 40-year-old vines, no new oak, rather with one and two-year-old barrels
Broad, open, with nice red fruit. Hmm, shimmering width and energy. Lovely intensity in the finish. Beautiful Bourgogne!
2022 Côte de Nuits Villages Aux Bulards
1.4 ha in Comblanchien in Aux Bullards, this the first vintage. Second vintage – we got less than 20 hl/ha in the first vintage, 2021 – we had the double in 22.
Ooh – more intense and even more forward red fruit – that’s a great invitation. More supple and concentrated but still with lovely mouth-watering energy. Almost a hint of chocolate depth to this delicious flavour.
2022 Fixin La Place
The lieu-dit, near Fissey. 45-year-old vines, near the route de grand cru.
Very pure and direct, slightly perfumed too – that’s a beauty. Hmm, broad and showing a hint of softness to this Fixin structure – a beauty here too!
2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Athets
50 year-old vines.
Larger scale and more perfumed. Hmm, a structure but one that melts over the palate – certainly with a more delicate style of flavours – juicy in the finish. That’s very lovely, as I’ve come to expect here.
From the north of the village
Some violet perfume here. Extra direct – beautiful purity – the finish still with some stricter structure but what a beautifully shaped wine. That’s really a top villages.
85-year-old vines – on the border of Vosne and Nuits – the oldest of the domaine.
Very perfumed – that’s a beauty. Round, more tannin framing the flavours. Velvet, faintly but only modestly drying. Really great!
2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier Vieilles-Vignes
Almost 70-year-old vines.
Very broad, lightly creamy and round. Classier tannin – no grain – really broad over the palate just like the nose. A soft, silky wine – beautifully finishing. It should clean up a little with the last part of elevage then will be to die for!
2022 Nuits S.Georges 1er Aux Argillas
‘From the north of Nuits, not the southern Argillières!’ Just under Thorey
A little more airy nose, lightly floral. Here is a wine of direction, less width but it’s clean-cut and of fine juicy-fruited focus. Extra depth in these long-finishing flavours – the structure present but not jarring. Simply excellent – but the finish is great!!
2022 Echézeaux Les Treux
On the flat near Grands-Echézeaux. 85-year-old vines from 0.3 hectares. All new oak this year.
From a new barrel and it’s present but lessening with air – really broadening. Larger scale – good fresh energy though. The structure of the barrel is very present but this is beautifully long finishing.
