The new chambre d’hôtes of the domaine were practically ready for guests when I visited, so I was able to make a tour – you can already book.

Lucie on 2023:
Oh yes, we have to be happy. And that’s two vintages in a row with some wine after the tiny quantities in 2021.

Lucie on 2022:
We had plenty of rain to start the vintage in 2022 and I think we had enough reserve of water so didn’t suffer from as much as we feared. I think because of that we had a proper volume in 22 – double what we had in 21. So we had quantity but not ‘just’ plenty of juice we also super maturity – and not so high sugars as in 2019 and 2020 and – for us, it’s a year of balance. It’s hard to be unhappy with these 2022s as they are so open and they were like that from very early in their elevage – we will understand if people drink some of their bottles early but clearly they will improve. We see some comparisons to 2017 and even 2002 with these wines. We’re starting to assemble the wines right now and they will stay ‘en masse’ for about 3 months – about a month earlier than most years – but that’s only for logistical reasons.

The wines…

Absolutely delicious wines – what did you expect? 🙂 Here the villages wines are particularly outstanding for their labels in 2022.

2022 Bourgogne Les Lutonières
Just in the commune of Vosne
These aromas bring a comfortable and inviting width of fruit -yes! Direct, lots of juicy freshness – it opens out over the palate – a little grained but deliciously large finishing. Simply excellent.

2022 Vosne-Romanée
4 different parcels – 2 behind the domaine and the others are direction Nuits and direction Vougeot. All are harvested over 2-3 days.
Airy, faintly tobacco spiced – then the purity of the fruit shines through. Hmm – broad with only a mm of cushioning. A small, ripe, grain of tannin and then absolutely beautifully finishing. Large in scale, like the Bourgogne, but with a more velour texture. This cuvee is as delicious as ever!

2022 Vosne-Romanée Colombière
Vinified like the previous but from the single parcel of 90-year-old vines between the house and the Route Nationale.
More profound depth and what a beautiful top perfume – that’s a large aromatic step up! Larger scale, still a texture of velour – then widening in a panoramic finish. This will be a great villages wine- even in Vosne-Romanée – yes!!
2022 Nuits St. Georges Aux Bas de Combe
Assembled 10 days, for bottling in March – next to Vosne 1er Chaumes
Ooh, that’s a very pretty, fine and airy, perfumed aroma. A comfortable width over the palate – a velvet texture – and it’s a wine of juicy interest, accented with the barrel in the finish – but only just. That’s another great villages!

2022 Nuits St.Georges 1er 1er Vignes Rondes
More density to this nose and a little less width, opening with much more floral notes. Direct and mineral in style, but growing in both intensity and width in the middle flavours. Finishing a little narrower but no less deliciously. Lovely wine…

2022 Nuits St.Georges 1er Les Chaignots
Middle of the vines on the Vosne side. A more stony soil and a steeper position here.
Directly open with perfectly pure dark berry fruit. Direct, the finest texture yet with the tiniest grain of tannin – extra juicy – just so deliciously finishing. Almost a hint of too much sucrosity – but toooo tasty – I’d be drinking this with pleasure already.

2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Feuselottes
In the middle under the village – a place that suffers less from the dryness. Vines neighbouring those of Cécile Tremblay
An extra breadth of fine aroma – really perfumed. Large scale and with plenty of structure – nothing hard. Transparent fine finishing. Lovely.

2022 Echézeaux
Rouges du Bas on the hillside – old vines plus a smaller parcel at the bottom next to the wall of Clos de Vougeot in the corner with Grands Echezeaux.
Hmm – that has a very inviting nose – cushioned but so pure too – just getting better and better in the glass – bravo! Fluid, beautifully textured – growing in a complexity of intensities. On one hand contemplative on the other still with some juicy energy – a wine for whatever your mood!!!
2022 Ruchottes-Chambertin
0.60 ha. From Bas – the parcel the furthest from the domaine.
Also really perfumed – a deeper perfume – that’s very different and very lovely! Nicely direct and mouth-watering, almost the faintest hint of strict – I like! – juicy, fluid finishing. An absolute beauty.

2022 Clos de Vougeot
Sandwiched between JN Méo and Lamarche (now Liger-Belair). Vines replanted in 1955 next to the Chateau.
Narrower but fresher – the red berries with more focus. Really wide – here is intensity too. Then a finishing wave of flavour that’s much more floral in the style of the domaine, very slowly fading. Not overtly structural but overtly delicious!
