Vincent on 2023:
A vintage is never hard when you are full – but yes, we are satisfied. You could say heterogenous, of course, the grapes requiring plenty of triage. Nothing has started its malos yet but I think we have good things – and of course, we are very happy with the whites. Overall, we started a little later – 12 Sept, working for 13 days, some days only in the mornings – I anyway didn’t want to cut grapes during the heatwave of the first days of September. By concentration, there was some speeding-up of maturity in Corton this year. But how environmental is harvesting warm grapes and then cooling them?

Vincent on 2022:
42 hl/ha for the reds and 45-46 hl/ha for the whites. This is more than 2020 but less than 2023. The big difference for a ‘sunny vintage’ is that although hot and dry we still had rain that came at important moments – just when the vines needed it – so the maturity was hardly complicated by lack of water. Some wines are already bottled others will wait – there is an obvious commercial reality of needing wine to sell after the small volume of 2021 – but the wine had to be ready for that!

The domaine has new bottles now, with longer necks, to take their mix of seals but leaving space for a topping of wax (not the capsule) over the seal – ensuring it sticks to both the cork and the glass of the neck. “I’m fortunate to be working at a domaine that allows me to research this…

The wines…

Just a super level of consistency here – there are a few great wines – but all are delicious wines – well done!

These first wines are all bottled:

2022 Ladoix
A blend of multiple climats
Silky and rather concentrated red fruit aromas. Supple, with fine width. There’s great shape here with a slowly growing intensity to this cherry stone accented flavour. Finishing with a tiny grain of tannin – that’s a lovely start – not an overt personality but a delicious wine.

2022 Ladoix Clos de Chaignots Monopole
This with a diam 5 haute de gamme, 2.35 hectares in Ladoix and a monopole chez Ardhuy
A very similar width of aroma but with some extra higher tones. There’s more direction and attack from this – much more personality and ambition here I think – a fine energy too. Super wine, with a delicious finish! Bravo!

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Rouvrettes
Not produced in 21 due to the frosted low volumes
Plenty of colour. Also broad and vibrant yet still with silky red fruit. Hmm, here is also personality – a wine with direction and energy and particularly lovely red fruit. Simply excellent wine!

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Aux Clous
The biggest parcel of the domaine at 2.5 ha – over 1 hectare currently replanted. Narbantons also replanted and should return in 2022.
A more vertical nose of open high tones and red fruit but also plenty of depth. Open, faintly grained with tannin, a big warm hug of flavour with a wide finishing wave of flavour that’s accented by some extra saline complexity. Structured, so wait at least a year – better two – but that’s a super wine.

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Les Peuillets
More impressive depth of aroma here – the top notes are a little pinched to start. Concentration balanced by some fluidity and a really impressive finish – that’s an excellent 1er cru – wait 2 years – yum!

2022 Aloxe-Corton Boutières–Valozières
I like this approach of explaining what’s in a bottle – is it properly authorised? No. Is it not authorised? – also no 😉 C’est la France!
Fresh red fruit with a core of more cherry stone aroma. The cherry stone is also visible in this very tasty flavour – widening over the palate with just a hint of finishing minerality. A finishing grain of tannin – this strictness may be coming from the Valozières – keep it back 18 months and then enjoy – delicious wine…

The following wines not yet bottled:

2022 Aloxe-Corton 1er Les Chaillots
More depth and fewer high tones but here’s an attractive width of aroma. Ooh – that’s beautiful in the mouth really quite some depth of flavour – that’s a super wine – simply excellent, even in the context of 2022.

2022 Corton Renardes
That’s very nice, a little more direct aromatic. Large scale, lots of energy and complexity – that’s going to be really super but I’d keep it for 5 years. Delicious wine again.

2022 Clos de Vougeot Maupertuis
That’s got a very fine nose, of faint florals and delicate red fruits. Breadth of flavour – really open, framed with a grain of tannin – but ripe, not drying. This has tons of interest and is a very fine CV…

2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Chaumes
Original vines from 1901…
A strong core of red berry fruit here. Hmm, that’s got a super texture and a wonderful textural generosity of flavour but always balanced, never heavy. That’s really complex wine and not a hint ‘simple’ as is the reputation for this 1er. Bravo Chaumes!
2022 Côte de Nuits Villages Clos des Langres Monopole
3.14 hectares.
A more direct but still more airy high tone to this wine. Hmm, that has a supple depth of flavour becoming more direct and insistent in the finishing flavour. A hint of structure – but it’s a great CdNV!

Les Whites…
All are bottled:

2022 Ladoix Blanc
Blend of Combottes, Chaillots and Chagnots. DIAM5-sealed – a mix of stainless steel and barrel elevage.
A nose that adeptly fills the glass with energy, minerals and sweet citrus. Some generosity in this width of flavour – wide and satisfying flavour in the finish – delicious!

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaine Clos des Godeaux
After the 2023 harvest they pulled out a section at the top of the vineyard to replant.
A little extra zesty freshness to this nose. More zesty energy and a growing juiciness with salinity too. Much more to find here – tasty, complex wine!

2022 Ladoix 1er Le Rognet
Another monopole of the domaine – more striking, riper but still fresh yellow citrus. Extra volume in the mouth with more than a hint of minerality. Super wine!

2022 Corton-Charlemagne
Over 2 ha. Rognets et Corton high up, plus a parcel in Languettes and another in Pougets, and finally a tiny parcel in Carrières. Now with a wax disk between the cork and the capsule.
A fresher, more panoramic width of aroma. Hmm, calm but rather mineral – melting over the palate. Beautiful texture. Not super-expressive today but it seems to have everything – it could be a great one!
