Jérôme on 2022:
The conditions were very hot but we still chose to wait for full ripeness. Because of this, we were quite late and had wines with high pHs – but the effect was still super fresh.

The wines:

Always some great wines to be found by Jérôme – the average quality is so high!

2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
Mainly Brochon and Gevrey fruit, plus some from below the Clos de Vougeot
Dark red fruit, lots of clarity – 40 hl/ha average – full, exciting, dark fruit a little framing structure and a bunch of complex, delicious flavour – lovely.

2022 Marsannay
Multiple plots assembled.
Higher toned. Hmm – more fluid and wide, love the shape and energy of this – super and keep for 2 years in the first instance.

2022 Fixin
More direct, darker red fruit in the attack. Full, mouth-filling, great shape. Wide, slightly structural finishing – I love this!

2022 Côte de Nuits Villages Vieilles Vignes
From Brochon
Oh, that’s a lovely nose – round, textured and complex – really impressive. Hmm, that’s great in the mouth – bravo – great finishing too!

2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice
Vines from 1960, later ripening by about a week.
Sleek, direct, darker fruit framed with a very fine tannin. Broad, super width and intensity. Simply excellent wine.

2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Billard
Similar soil but in Justice the ground is just a little higher than that of the neighbours and the soil is very draining due to lots of gravel…
More airy and open there are more florals here too. More attack, more architecturally structured. Slowly fading – it’s a beauty!

2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Croisette
Middle of brochon – 1900s vines – there are some outcrops of rock here. There’s some chardonnay and even some alogoté planted in this area.
Also finely perfumed – not powerful – a hint smoky. More width and generosity but not rich. Really fine, powdery tannin in this almost chalky finish – long finishing and holding well.

2022 Fixin Champs des Charmes
Actually right next to the CDNV – 1960s vines.
A round nose, faintly smoky and cushioned – slowly adding higher tones. Direct, fluid, silky – I love that!

2022 Marsannay Clos du Roy
In the domaine just 2 years – ‘but it’s imposed itself very well.’
Not a large nose but a wide and attractively complex perfume. Ooh – direct, and fluid but still generous – top wine!
2022 Côte de Nuits Villages Les Retraits
Name of climat in Comblanchien – vines from 1923 and 1932. 2014 was the first vintage for this wine – with an individual label. ‘Pinot from another time, the owner is in his 80s but it was his father that planted these vines, the first planting here post phylloxera.’ South of the Clos de Marechale.
Very perfumed – gorgeous aroma. Both width and direct style – super texture and juicy – just 1mm of cushion – no more. A great wine!

Les Whites:

2022 Aligoté La Blanche
From Pommard
Direct and fresh – lots of energy and clarity – not full power but open enough. Round but juicy, a different palette of fruit, more goldens but juicy and delicious

2022 Aligoté Chaumont
Broad and perfumed – a little savoury even. Really juicy and mouth-filling – this is completely delicious and really broad finishing – incisive with a great finish

2022 Bourgogne Aligoté Le Cran
This on granite a rosé and a black grain from hillside vines in Bissey.
Only a modest nose but quite transparent. Cooler, more mineral, direct, structural wine. I like it a lot!

2022 Bouzeron Les Clous
Hmm – that’s got a lovely zesty type nose. Rounder – juicy as all but this is also a very zesty style of flavour – very different – great finishing – so long and moreish…

2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay
A mix of close parcels in the north
Pretty and perfumed – more floral than the aligotés. Vibrant – electric energy – some Grapefruit style of flavour

2022 Marsannay Champs Perdrix Blanc
Young vines – replanted with 2 massale selections, one from Meursault (Roulot) and the other from Marsannay (Pataille)
Fine freshness – mineral style – lots of clarity – yes! Sleek, direct – just a mm of cushion – a wine of speed and delicious energy.
