Cécile on 2021:
This year we fought; it was a war in the vines, the frost-hit parts were terrible and I didn’t make them but the other parts there was more wine than in 2020 where the grapes were sufficient but empty! In the end we made about the same in 2021 as in 2019 – but only where not frosted! I decided to just make a Vosne 1er. The Bourgogne was not bad as it wasn’t frosted there.

Cécile on 2020:
A calm year certainly for the number of visits & visitors! A family year, we bottled all the 2018s together with the kids. It was fun. The work in the vines became intense as we were three weeks ahead of a normal year, though in the end not much to harvest due to the lack of water. So 2020 was a bit catastrophic for the volume but, of course, the quality was there!

The wines…

One of the greatest domaines tasted for 2020s!

2020 Bourgogne Côte d’Or
Half each from the Vosne and Chambolle communes…
Airy, fresh, floral perfumed – that’s a beauty. Cushioned, silky, fluid. Great Bourgogne. I’m salivating…

2020 Morey Saint Denis
Wider, more rose perfumed aroma. Fuller, a little softer at the edges and shows a touch of tannic grain. But like the Bourgogne, there’s an easy and fluid style to this delicious wine – excellent stuff! And an extra late-arriving finishing burst of flavour too…

2020 Chambolle-Musigny Cabotte
Multiple parcels – 3 – Fremiers, Au Echanges and Maladières – in the domaine since 2009
This has less weight but an extra freshness of perfume. Much silkier, direct, cool fruit, always with a soft cushion of tannin that has almost no grain. Top. Wait for a bit more flavour complexity, but top! Chalky finishing too…

2020 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles-Vignes
From the clay soils…
Fuller and deeper aromas – vibrant. Sleek, direct, mouth-watering. A wine of energy and a little finishing oak – excellent stuff! And there’s a reprise of flavour in the finish too.

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Feuselottes
Only this one, as the other Chambolles were too low in volume.
A hauntingly fine nose – have I ever smelled a better Feuselottes? I think not! Silk and lace – what texture! Ultra elegant and great for this cru. Bravo.
2020 Echézeaux du Dessus
A fine and elegant, quite small starting, nose but one with super depth and growing complexity – very perfumed as is the hallmark here. Wow-texture! Direct, cool fruit – a second wine that I would call ‘zen.’ Wider in the finish as you chew and search, so mouth-watering. Should a gc have more impact? It’s a fair question, but with such a complete wine as this, I doubt you will be asking. The finish grows wider and wider and sustains itself so, so long… bravo again!
