Antoine on 2021 and 2020:
2021 is about 30% down – it’s roughly similar to the volume in 2020. We’re happy with the 2020 vintage, it’s fine. I think there’s a bit more material in these 2020s than the 2019s but the wines are still elegant. Our harvest started 28th August – we were almost a month later in 2021!

The wines…

Not all the wines were easy to taste on this day but a whole bunch of 1ers really hit the heights – great, great wines that are worth a search!

All was racked and sulfured 3 weeks ago, for bottling in April after 18 months:

2020 Bourgogne Côte d’Or
All these vines in the commune of Chambolle; all destemmed, mainly large barrels and hardly any new
Airy and pretty, the flavours are melting, slightly mineral and really very tasty!

2020 Morey St.Denis
Some Clos Solon, plus grapes from another parcel near the Route Nationale.
Stating a bit volatile (it’s more common than you would think before assembling) but there’s super flavour depth and shape in the mouth – concentrated. The next barrel fresh and gorgeous, though more reductive.

2020 Chambolle-Musigny
Seven different parcels; most of Bas Doix, a little Cras, some just above Musigny and other parts close to Morey – 10% wc.
A beautiful crystalline style to this nose. A more open and structural style – very tasty, very impressive wine.

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Bas Doix
The domaine’s largest village parcel, the balance from this in the previous wine – 1 ha in total
That’s a deliciously inviting nose – simply lovely, darker fruit. Fuller, more textured with tannin, structural but fully padded. Yum!

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Plantes
Next to Charmes – they have 3 plots of Charmes – in the middle of the Combe.
Rounder, redder fruit, quite vibrant and pure. Wide and fresh, depth of concentrated fruit here, almost chewy with dry extract in the finish. This is another super wine.

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Feuselottes
A small parcel so all whole-cluster.
Thats very finely perfumed – lovely. More direct, mouthwatering. Completely delicious excellent wine!

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Fuées
Next to Bonnes-Mares, on the hill.
A little reductive. Also the flavours but with lovely depth to this texture and flavour. The last drops in the glass are properly open and fabulous!

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Charmes
From three separate parcels, blended.
Fresh, wide, faintly cushioned and perfumed – bravo. Wide and vibrantly flavoured – thats really super. Extra Long finishing top.
2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Borniques
The domaine always had these vines, but 2017 was the first time that a standalone cuvée has been separated. The vines are located at the village end of Musigny.
Vibrantly fruited – extravagantly perfumed. Structural, a little depth of tannin, but so mouthwatering too. Great – for keeping a while but great and so impressively long too.
2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Derriere la Grange
On the Morey side of the village. It’s a small 1er cru covering just over 0.7ha – this domaine owning almost half.
Another super nose but different – a width of silky, floral, notes – so good! Impressive, layered, never heavy. Continuously leaching its great flavour over the palate. The slightly quieter sibling of the last but also great. And super long again.

2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Amoureuses
Plantations in 1993, 2003-05, and another third in 2019.
A different style of nose again, closer to the last but much more airy. Well shaped, lots of volume, plenty of structure too – for waiting longer, this is showing less than either of the previous two.

2020 Charmes-Chambertin
Actually in Mazoyères but the family always labelled as so. Very old vines no wc
More open than the Amoureuses, a very silky width of perfume. A little fuller and more supple, plenty of tannin but very fine. A great and sustained burst of finishing flavour. Excellent Charmes.

2020 Clos St.Denis
A faint suggestion of barrel smoke but here is silky wine, very elegant and airy. Properly structured, saline, finishing mineral, very dark-fruited – I have got to say that this is a great wine, not a bit overdone in any direction.
