Pierre on 2020:
I’ve nothing bottled yet. The wines were racked about 1 month ago but will likely be bottled in about April 2022. The problem with the vintage was the maturity; it was only ‘approximate’ at the start of the harvest, and at the finish, it was almost a little too much. The dryness stopped maturity but with the drying weather the grapes concentrated and candied a little, so didn’t have the same energy – still, we’ve ended up with pH 3.1 for some cuvées!

The wines…

Delicious wines from Pierre, some with new names as the PF 1er crus tend to be groupings under a single name – losing some of the naming complexity.

2020 Mâcon-Fuissé Les Tâches
A width of energy and attractive, faintly spiced, citrus freshness. Golden fruit, width and an attack of freshness then a bubbling finishing impression. A slightly sweet flavour but with lovely tension – deliciously drinkable too.

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles-Vignes
All from the commune of Fuissé but up to 20 different ‘micro-parcels’ on multiple soil types.
Freshness above a core of vibrant, yellow citrus – but less open than many. Mouth-filling, growing more direct with the acidity – an attractive frame of faint tannin too.

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Pierre à Canard
This touches the previous parcel of Les Tâches
This has a super nose, accented with the barrel but super, super. Wide, vibrant – clean and mineral, always mouth-watering indeed practically juicy in the finishing flavours. Simply excellent, delicious wine!

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Vigne Blanche
Had to change to name under this group of climats – it was Vers Agnères
A more mineral style of nose, suggesting a little rigour but also growing a purity of citrus fruit. A modest reductive style, agrume fruit with a suggestion of grapefruit – but that will be the reduction. Finishing with dry extract and slowly mouth-watering and faintly saline at the end. That’s going to be lovely but you should show some patience.

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Les Resse
Another grouping of 3-4 parcels. More marne and depth of soil here.
The airiest of these noses – going deep in a mineral style too. Wide, vibrant energy – almost a dynamic wine. Of layered delivery of fruit flavour supported by the minerality and always juicily mouth-watering – a baby – but such a lovely one. Super-finishing too – great potential here!
