Laurent on 2020:
In 2020 we had the problem of the summer dryness – though we have deep soils so it’s not really a big problem. We don’t have the ‘great’ terroirs – so dry years are always better than wet ones for us! Some of the chardonnays took their time to finish fermenting, it’s because of that, that not all are bottled yet. We have a positioning of wines that are good to drink for a fair price and 2020 allowed us to keep in that vein. Our wines have no added sulfur unless think it is needed – so in 2020, we have about 10-11 mg as bottled but that’s with none added.

The wines…

Delicious wines from unassuming producers – always a treat!

2020 Mâcon Rouge Les Perrières
All gamay, quite a limestone soil for these 60-year-old vines – whole cluster with a daily remontage.
A deep and dark though subtly sweet fruit. Great, mouth-filling shape with the finest of grain – sometimes there’s none to see (find). Very mouth-watering flavour – this is very moreish – excellent wine.

2020 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Chant de la Tour
Older barrel elevage. Destemmed and cooled before fermentation, one remontage per day, end of fermentation after pressing into barrel.
A more airy nose – a little more attractive here. There’s flavour depth to this wine, again some tannin but, again, with practically with no grain. Wide, energetic, almost a little citrussy in the finish – faintly with bitters – I love this finish!

2020 Bourgogne Aligoté Limone
Limoneux soils. This with a small addition of sulfur before bottling.
A width of aroma, with a riper, almost spiced, width of citrus fruit. Direct and energetic – the acidity is bright in this one – but with it comes the energy too. This will wake you up – in a good way – but for drinking young – maybe only the acidity remains in a few years – but it’s lovely today.

Cremant Prestige
It’s 100% chardonnay. Both fermentations were done in barrel, then about 15% of the new vintage is added to make the mousse, so this is 85% 2017 the rest from 2018.
Ripeness and a depth of fruit that has a suggestion of apple but always a fine invitation to drink from this cuvée. Plenty of gas – of course 😊 Open, with a good, not too insistent, intensity. Almost a faint suggestion of creamy depth to this very agreeable flavour – I always love this cuvée and it’s the same for this blend. Bravo!
