Anthony on 2020:
2020s the bottling will soon be finished – we now have the first 1ers bottled and have wax tops for those. It was an easy vintage to work and also to vinify – and there was also some volume too – so very different when compared to 2021. Not too high degrees – 13-13.5° and all-natural. We can be happy!

The wines…

The team here seem to have made a great success of 2020 – three wines worthy of a special search from 5 presented – well done!

2020 Mâcon-Bussières Montbrison
The barrels used for this are a mix of sizes, about 20% new – 9 months in the barrels followed by time in tank. Bottled about 1 month.
That’s a nicely saline accented nose. An open style in the mouth, a modest rigour from the structure but balanced by the purity and mouth-watering freshness from the rest of the wine. The finish is simply lovely. A really fine Bussières!

2020 St.Véran Le Vieille Vigne de Crêche
Vines from early 50s near the lycée of Davayé.
Some extra width to this aroma – faintly floral too. Bigger – more open and mineral style in the mouth. Really fine waves of mouth-watering flavour washing over the palate. Simply excellent.

2020 St.Véran Les Crays
A plateau of limestone, in the domaine since 2016 with a conventional culture before, 85-year-old south-facing vines that are being ‘brought back to life.’
The nose is a little rounder and more floral perfumed. A little more direct, plenty mouth-watering, lusciously delicious! Bursting in the juicy finish – bravo!
2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Haute de la Roche
Only part of their Sous la Roche got 1er cru status – this is the part that didn’t
Pretty, airy nose – modestly floral but always inviting. Extra-wide – widescreen minerality here too – great finishing with such a deliciously mouth-watering finish – I honestly can’t decide whether I prefer this to that last or not – but also bravo!
2020 Pouilly-Fuissé La Marechaude
Plain-south facing here.
A great nose – not the largest but gorgeously pure and modestly floral – again, a great nose. Starting modestly then opening and widening, so mouth-watering again this time with an extra cushioning. Certainly extra complexity and completely delicious. Not necessarily better than the previous – except maybe the nose – also a simply super wine.
