Romain on 2020:
For us it’s a good vintage – anything would be between the frosts of 2019 and 2021! Certainly, it was an easy vintage with nice weather for working in the vines and doing the treatments and of course for the harvest. I’d say that the yield was correct – unlike 19 and 21 where the frost cost us quite a lot…

The wines…

Clean, pure, mineral wines presented here – a mix of 2020 and 2019. A simply excellent range…

Only natural cork used here.

2020 Mâcon-Chaintre Les Serreuxdières
A fresh nose of clarity – such a lovely invitation to take a sip. Open, cleanliness of flavour, mouth-watering and mineral, such a delicious entry wine again – bravo!

2020 Mâcon-Fuissé Les Bruyères
Plain north-facing. Some blue-stone and schist here. Not originally classed as Pouilly-Fuissé as these vines were north-facing.
This deeper nose offers a different style of complexity. More depth of concentration here, still good mouth-watering clarity. That’s very good – indeed simply excellent finish – the best part.

2020 St.Véran Les Serreuxdières
That’s got a depth of minerals for a nose. Extra mouth-watering minerality here – but courtesy the citrus fruit not losing the delicious style or becoming too serious or rigourous. Extra intensity – but elegantly delivered, of finishing flavour – great finishing!

And these 2019s are all bottled:

2019 Pouilly-Fuissé
A rounder, yellower-fruited nose. Rounder but still with lots of mouth-watering energy – really a juicy finish – great finishing again.

2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Reyssié
Barrel elevage for 12 months then another 12 in tank. Planted by Romain’s grandfather in 1936…
A bit more width of aroma – very attractive with a lemon citrus. Rounder, more melting in style but with purity too ooh – that’s really very good – lovely, lovely, lingering flavour.

2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Plessys
Very old vines with fine clay topsoil.
This nose has the best combination of higher and lower tones so far – that’s very attractive. Here is some impact and density of flavour – slowly melting, beautifully textured too. This is an undoubtedly excellent wine but one to wait for – there’s super texture and depth of flavour here.

2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chevrières
Only 10-20 cm of soil before hitting the rock, all demi-muid elevage.
A little extra ripeness of fruit on this nose but still retaining some brightness. More direct, cool-fruited, layered – more mineral than citrus today. Some faint tannin and a vibration of delicious finishing flavour – that’s really lovely again and easily excellent wine!
