Peter on 2020:
“It was half a harvest for us in 2019 and another small harvest in 2020. It was a very sunny year but my altitude helped and gave good balance despite the concentration in the juice. The only issue was the dryness there were no other problems but the result was only 25 hl/ha – that’s less than I managed in 2019.”
The wines…
Just 3 quick wines with Peter, but three very tasty wines – but don’t rush to drink them!
All elevage without added sulfur – but there’s an addition before the bottling:
2020 Mâcon-Bray Les Pierres Levées (Blanc)
Vines over 50 years old. Here, with demi-muid elevage, bottled in July like the last wine.
A golden style to the fruit here. Very silky, very concentrated – a herby complexity to this ripe fruit – almost a little exotic but always with good balancing acidity. That’s a tasty finish too.
2020 Mâcon-Bray Rouge Mégalith
South-facing, old-vine gamay with 500-l barrel elevage.
A deep nose – high-toned too – vertical. Smoky fruit. Some gas and lots of growing, perfumed, spiced fruit. Very tasty, concentrated wine – for keeping a while!
2019 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Balancin
About 30-yo pinot vines, whole clusters and barrel elevage.
Also a perfumed nose, much less smoky. Big in the mouth with extra structure in all directions – some faintly dry but not grainy tannin too. Keep this too – but it will be worth it – I see a super finishing clarity of pepper-accented flavour. Super!
