“They are only samples from tank – but all will be bottled next month! 2020 was quite an easy vintage – no maladies and the weather was good – dry but not too dry for us. We were about minus 40% in volume in 2019 so this was a welcome return to correct volumes – I won’t talk about 2021”

NE-facing 55 yo vines in an old quarry…
Round, ripe, but with good energy here. Full but melting with mouth-watering flavour – if only to ease the wine I’d wait but it’s already a tour de force – bravo!
2020 Pouilly-Fuissé En France
In Vergisson but really a very clay-based soil with some blue clay and plenty of sand too. About 4 producers of this

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er La Maréchaude ‘Clos de Verchère‘
This nose has some pretty top notes but is less open than the last. Mineral, more structural, less elegant but with finely mobile and delicious flavour – this certainly for keeping a little while. Fine width of finishing flavour too. Keep this back – simply excellent!
2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Les Crays
Aromatically, a little more open in the middle registers – this is a good invitation. Extra wide and extra mineral. Only modestly showing some rigour, but another great finishing wine. Lovely lingering flavours. Another keeper – give it 3-4 years then enjoy – excellent!
2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Sur la Roche
The most vibrant and wide nose of all these. Extra mineral, with extra focus – very modestly phenolic texture. This is a lovely lingering wine – the finish less fine focus as the previous wines but the rest is on a higher level – wait for it – I think it will also be excellent.
