Château de Lavernette is a Biodynamic estate and the grapes are all hand-harvested. Here, a few notes on the vintages from Kerrie de Boissieu:

Kerrie on 2020:
We had a normal yield in 2020, like – nearly – 2018. For us, it was 2019 that was much more difficult, that was a small vintage due to the frost – when we had less than half of the 2018 volume.

The wines…

Actually a mix of vintages from 2018-2021. Excellent to great wines!

2019 Beaujolais Blanc Les Vignes de la Roche
After 18 month on the lees in tanks, the vines just 50 metres from Pouilly-Fuissé AOC – the only BJ of Chaintre
That’s got a nice core of fruit. There’s density but freshness and salinity too. The wine melts quite well over the palate and is very long. That’s a lovely BB!

2020 Bourgogne Blanc
This with elevage in neutral barrels, this bottled in September after the harvest
Extra width and freshness versus the last. Silky, layered, concentrated but never heavy – that’s an intense but pure finish. A larger wine but poised and tasty – very tasty.

2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Chaines
Next to Chateau de Rontets and Denogent – the highest parcels of the domaine – bordered with peach trees. A scree to the ‘soil’ here – very stony. 22 months of barrel elevage – 1/3 new.
This is a fuller nose – lots of oak today but also lots of interest. This is beautiful in the mouth – super texture, melting over the palate. I’ll certainly be waiting for the oak to fade – so maybe up to 4 or 5 years – but this is a great wine.

2020 Beaujolais Villages
Bottled, elevage in cement. They also have a Leynes BJ that will be bottled in the next days. Sandy pink granite here with just a little clay in the topsoil.
This nose brings a punchy, bright, strawberry welcome with a modest graphite minerality. Easy over the palate, enviable purity, long and mouth-watering. Beautiful villages!

2018 Beaujolais Leynes Le Clos Jadis
2 years in barrel then kept back in bottle for a year. From 2 parcels of old vines – one 80 and the other 65, all destemmed.
A more floral and faintly spiced nose. Concentrated, cool fruit, faintly spiced and saline. Really a super finish – I love that. Faintly oaked right at the end but no vanilla! Well-done!

2018 St.Amour Le Chatelet
Near Billards and Julienas. Certified BD in 2018. 18 months elevage with 20% new oak.
Narrower but deeper – that’s a very attractive nose. Cool – mouth-filling, mouth-watering ooh that’s a super wine – it needs time to open out but it will be super.

2021 Beaujolais Villages Nouveau Le Jeune
No added sulphur. Bright, fresh, red-nosed. Silky, wide, full of flavour, nicely energetic too. Nicely vibrant and persistent in the finish – excellent!
