Christine on 2020:
Not an ‘easy’ vintage but I’d say a comfortable vintage that has brought a nice freshness – we like them, their minerality and drinkability and finally their balance. Not all are bottled but some are – we’re waiting for the next good moon!

The wines…

That’s a super selection of wines – a couple of which are really covetable!

2020 St.Véran
Fresh, with almost an accent of lime to this citrus nose. Round, supple but bubbling with mineral energy – then clarity, then almost juicy – a basic wine that has it all – bravo!

2020 St.Véran Les Creches
East-facing and sunny with a large proportion of ‘active’ limestone. Some of this with elevage in a concrete ‘egg’
There’s some density of aroma here but framed with good freshness. Extra mineral and energetic – again so mouth-watering. If you don’t want the rounder aspects of the last then take this more direct version – it’s simply excellent.

2020 Mâcon-Vergisson
From behind Vergisson – looking a little more north-east with some iron in this soil.
Yellow citrus, ripe but not too ripe. Mouth-filling – really mouth-watering too – juicy wine that’s almost chalky in the finish too – I love that. A more mineral wine and also completely excellent.

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Tilliers
Here, this was called Vigne Blanche before but this is the real lieu-dit – The assembly of two parcels.
Vibrant – that’s lovely – really an aromatic invitation. Concentrated, slowly mouth-watering, this is a wine of concentration that’s turning more to intensity in the mouth. I love this nose but today I prefer the style of the previous wine – this will need time to relax over the palate – I would give it at least 2-3 years for that – the finish is beautifully, deliciously, mineral though.

Not yet bottled:

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Marechaude
It’s steep here so the work must be done by hand.
A freshness of aroma but not a very forward nose today. Really a width of mineral flavour – more elegantly delivered than in the last wine. Saline finishing with some waves of flavour – that’s impressive, if not yet immersive, wine – give it some time – elevage is not yet done but I think this will be excellent – as a minimum!

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Sur la Roche
Was ‘Clos’ here but they are not allowed that on a 1er cru label, so…. White limestone, plain south-facing.
Similarities to the last, aromatically, but with a little more floral intensity too. A little extra mineral clarity here – density too but never too much – this is a beautifully balanced wine of cool fruit, great finishing.
