Guillaume on 2020:
2020 was only really complicated in the sense of trying to follow the maturities, as some areas had places where the maturity was blocked – the whites were harvested last as they were the blocked ones. In general, I think it’s a very good vintage, more juicy than 2019 – and the yields were correct too – 35-40 hl/ha for the reds and 45-50 for the whites.

The wines…

Without a single wine leaving me speechless, this remains a really impressive line-up – all the wines, in both colours, were delicious. There’s nothing here that I’d object to at home!

Some wines are already in bottle though for the old vines, it’s more likely to be July/August bottlings:

2020 Mâcon-Serrières Rouge La Pepie
Bottled in May – ‘we want to keep the fruit.’
Missing some top notes today but this nose has a nice cassis width of gamay fruit. Ooh – that’s far too easy to drink – wide, mouth-watering – plenty of freshness but even more deliciousness!

2020 Mâcon-Bussières Rouge Coline
This on the argilo-calcaire
Vibrant, open nose, darker fruit with an accent of spice – that’s lovely. More depth to this flavour, layers of flavour, pure fruit, less gamay in style. Also delicious but very different.

And les Whites:

2020 Mâcon-Bussières Claude Seigneuret
12 months of elevage.
Only 10% of new oak but there’s still a little showing, otherwise this is round and ripe with good yellow-fruit clarity. Wide, with layered delivery of mouth-watering flavour over the palate. Very good.

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé VII
Just in case you were wondering – 7 different parcels, assembled!
Also the accent of oak but here with a more vibrant and exciting core of aroma. Here’s more minerality – an airy style – but clearly still with plenty of concentration. Long and delicious wine again.
