Stéphane on the recent vintages:
2021 was a low harvest volume but with soft attractive wines I think – I’m confident in them. 2020 a very good harvest; I think it a vintage similar to 2019 – so it was a warm one – we needed to keep a sharp attention on the fermentations as some were not finished before December but otherwise all was good. Our 2020s are all bottled – the last, at the end of December.

The wines…

As usual, high quality, occasionally great wines from this domaine.

2019 Moulin à Vent ‘Tradition’
Just 1 year of elevage for this, part in foudre and part in cement – roughly equal parts. Just starting to commercialise
A silky nose of depth, needing air to show more width. Supple, obviously concentrated, great texture – but this melts over the palate in highly accessible style. Modest bitters in the finish. That’s a delicious and concentrated wine.

2018 Moulin à Vent ‘Tradition’
Really deep and complex – a modest reduction and even a hint of development – very inviting. Broader, really a mouth-filling wine – more direction and structure is visible than for the 19 today – less overtly visible is the concentration. But this eases over the palate with a style that resembles the 19 – great finishing…

2017 Moulin à Vent ‘Tradition’
More open and with more emphasis to the higher tones, really a fine nose. Wide, indeed broad – a little more of the tannin is visible framing the flavours in a modest dryness – but no grain. Cool fruit – right now it’s the wine with most austerity – but still an excellent wine!

2020 Moulin à Vent La Rochelle
65-year-old vines just at the foot of Roche Grès.
This loses some of the high tones but the aromas are more in every other direction – a hint of oak visible too today. Direct, cool. Silky, some minerality at the base too. Great finishing – wide, cool and persistent.

2019 Moulin à Vent La Rochelle
A hint less colour. The oak, if anything, is more visible here than is the case with the 2020. Muscular, complex, a little drying (no grain) – this has everything – except overt drinkability – today.

2020 Moulin à Vent Rochegrès
Ultra-composed, ultra Rochgrès – that’s a really great nose! Supple, cool, structured, hardly drying – a wine with everything – really concentrated too. Great wine – and you needn’t be (though you should) too patient!
2019 Moulin à Vent Rochegrès
Also a beautiful nose but here with a little oak again. The same character – a little more direct (intense too) a little more drying – this is showing its structure a little more. I could drink it but I’d be more inclined to wait today Another great wine though.
