Jessie on 2020:
2020 – It was a good year. But we had to do a lot of triage – it was very warm, quite ripe the Beaujolais Villages was 13° – and up to a bit more than 14° for the Fleurie – but the wines tasted good right from the start.

The wines…

As I’m coming to expect, a very strong set of wines from here!

2020 Beaujolais Villages Marylou
Fresh open, airy red fruit – classic for this. Open and a little mineral. Vibrant in the middle and finishing flavours – completely delicious.

2020 Regnié – is sold-out…

2020 Côte de Brouilly
Another contract, this parcel shared with JC Lapalou
14° – A more concentrated nose. Hmm, more direct and fresh in CdB style. That’s got a lovely vibrant finish again, here with a bit more concentration. Also very tasty.

2020 Morgon Vieilles-Vignes
Multiple parcels, high vines near Charmes/Truges.
A nose with more width, slightly creamy nature style. More structured, fully open, melting with lovely focused flavour. This my new favourite – so deliciously mouth-watering and long…

2020 Morgon Petit Max
From vines in Les Charmes of 100-130 years old – and not made every year. The Morgon VV was from ‘only’ 80-year-old vines.
More concentrated width of aroma – silk red fruit. Extra energy – insivive – so juicy. Great wine!

2020 Fleurie
2nd vintage – from Les Garants next to Poncié – 14.5° here in this place.
Extra colour. Extra concentrated nose, deeper too – some excess in this fruit but there’s a nice floral perfume that’s starting to balance it. More supple – silky, really a fine textural experience – cool fruit despite the degree – Layered and contemplative finishing. This is very good and finishes with a little tannin at the end.

2019! Chiroubles Cuvée Lea
Named for the daughter of Marylou, Guy’s granddaughter. Bought grapes from a vigneron in Chiroubles who works organically – in Javernand – Guy works with the vigneron in the vines too. Another part of this wine is in conversion to organic. 2017 was the first vintage and because they had a good yield in 2018 they could wait another year before releasing this…
This has a fresh width of aroma. This is sleek and direct, not compact – more focused. Mouth-watering, mineral and absolutely delicious – simply excellent – and long…
