Grégoire on 2021:
Of course, it depends on the sector – in the Bas de Morriers we were a little frosted but here on the hill we were okay. The fermentations weren’t that easy to start as we harvested the grapes quite cold – it was a bit of sport! Degrees are about 11.5° but I didn’t chaptalize.

Grégoire on 2020:
There are some wines that have heaviness that I’ve tasted but here on the hill I think we’ve avoided that – I’m really happy to find freshness in my wines in 2020. Overall, 40 hl/ha – I’d say a ‘correct’ yield but we definitely suffered from the dryness.

The wines…

A super result again here – in the last vintages one of the best addresses in Fleurie

2020 Fleurie Indigène
‘This the most affected by the heat, the young vines were a little blocked here too – it’s my wine that shows the vintage the most. I like the acidity but analytically it’s quite high’
A dark and slightly spicy nose. Fine shape and texture in the nose, a little direct – only in the finish does this start to open out in a very attractive way with fine clarity. I don’t note anything extra about the acidity.

2020 Fleurie Origines
4 different lieu-dits included here.
Hmm – vibrant, slightly lactic – becoming cleaner and open with air. Wide, more airy, less impact – melting over the palate with some minerality though. The best part is the finish – it’s vibrant and with a fine mineral clarity.

2020 Morgon Corcelette
Sauvage, rocky, steep, plain-south facing – above Bellevue near the trees. It’s about another 100 metres higher than in Fleurie ‘so because of all that it will be the last of the vineyards to be certified.’ The only owned parcel, the rest are all fermage – 0.6 ha.
A vibrant nose with a slight pyrazine complexity. This melts over the palate in fine style – fluid, melting, mouth-watering in style. That’s simply a very excellent wine – wait 6 months…

2020 Fleurie Clos de l’Amandier
A parcel in the bottom of Poncié closer to the village of Fleurie. ‘Year on year – this is not just my favourite place to work – it’s my favourite wine too.’
That’s best nose so far – more direct and showing a vibrancy of darker-red fruit. Hmm – that’s so direct and beautifully textured, open and fluid again, red-fruited – faintly framed with a dryness of tannin but no grain. Again vibrantly finishing. That’s a great wine in 2020

2020 Fleurie Les Morriers
Needs air as tight to start but slowly opening in the glass – becoming more and more perfumed. Extra impact here, a certain power but framed with perfume rather than tannin – there is only a small grain of inconsequential tannin. A fine finishing intensity here too…
