Guillaume on 2020:
A couple of wines have not quite finished their elevage but, for us, 20 was problematic – there was almost no summer rain and we had grapes that were drying on the vines. The concentration was really impressive and we had to start picking 18 August but in doing so, we could keep plenty of freshness. The whites were ready at the same time. We did have a bit of frost at the start of the year – which was more of a problem in the young vines.

The wines…

You are going to have to wait for a number of these wines – but what wines – even the white!

I previously tasted some of the 2020s from here, but they are now further along with their elevage:

2020 Beaujolais Villages Blanc Clos des Muriers
Quite young vines from Blacé but only about 30 hl/ha – a plateau of 300m on argilo-calcaire. 12 months elevage, using barrels ex a good domaine in Rully.
That’s fresh – airy, wide and impressively attractive – demi-muids of 500-litres. Supple, tasty, delicious wine with freshness and a floral mouth-perfume. 4.5 ha clos in Blacé That’s great BJV white…

2020 Côte de Brouilly La Démarrante
A fine nose, slightly soft compared to the 2020s, also slightly floral. Faintly reductive flavour. Showing a little structure and love the finish here, long and very satisfying.

2020 Côte de Brouilly 6.3.1
The name comes from the proportions of the components with 2 years elevage. The 2019 of this has only just been bottled a couple of weeks ago – so you will have to wait for this!
A more open freshness of aroma. More mouth-filling, a texture of velour – some small dryness of tannin but no grain – really a nicely lithe-muscled presentation here that impressively broadens in the finish. Lots of lip-smacking complexity – this is excellent – and of course, won’t be bottled for the best part of a year…

2020 Côte de Brouilly Le Pavé
Here’s a beautiful nose of faintly spiced roundness but airy at the same time – highly attractive. Ooh – that’s more direct, sleek, mobile – yes fluid – love this! Insinuating, less simple sweet fruit there is so much to find here – bravo! I love the strict style of this!
2020 Côte de Brouilly L’Héronde
The vines below the domaine buildings
A stricter, more defined, nose – that’s lovely. This has a more vibrant and mobile complexity – structured but more labile, more mobile. Only a suggestion of dryness to the flavour. Extra finishing complexity. Different, yet so similar. Bravo again… The nose is becoming more and more accessible – another wine that won’t be botlöed for almost a year
