Patrice on 2020:
2020 was a decent harvest, I’m racking some of the wines right now. Harvesting for us started about 26 August. All nice and clean – there were a few grilled grapes around, but for us very little. The wines don’t seem like they come from a hot vintage as the acidity held really well.

Patrice on 2019:
We had some frost in various places but it was another year with a lot of heat – the acidites are not as high as in 2020 also the volume is lower – perhaps 15% less than a good vintage – but 2018 was a good volume vintage so no problem – so long as the market helps us in 2021. Zero grams of sugar in this year – that’s rare – 12.5-13.5°

The wines…

I’m very impressed with the range; much more classic than in 2018 with an attractive touch of austerity that bodes well for the future of these wines.

All DIAM seals for more than & years now.

2019 Petit Chablis
From the plateau above the grand crus – Les Clos and Valmur – a long parcel
That’s a lovely nose, faintly perfumed, a little green fruit, faintly sweet. Impact, concentration, a good minerality too. Nicely vibrant finishing too – again with a faint perfume and a little less finishing sweetness. That’s really excellent.

2019 Chablis
A large part in Prehy near Brocard.
A little extra freshness and lightness of aroma. A faint prickle of gas and an extra energy/acidity in the middle. Properly steely and tasty. Yum!

2019 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
Always the same parcels, planted about 1970-75. Plenty near the Brocard winery in Prehy Prehy – Les Pargues – this bottled in October
Less depth, more width, quite perfumed again. Not too sweet again, plenty of energy and fine clarity of flavour – properly mineral – lovely length.

2019 Chablis 1er Montmains
More weight of aroma – though still nicely open and fresh. Some gas showing here – less about fruit this wine, much more about citrus energy and minerality. Intense finishing That’s excellent.

2019 Chablis 1er Forêts
Include their Butteaux in this. That’s a fine clarity of aroma, a little more golden fruited. Broader, finely mineral. Suer line of mineral and fresh flavour. Lovely.

2019 Chablis 1er Vaillons
From Beugnons, Epinottes, Ronciéres, Melinots and Sechets – almost all the Sechets is older vines – pretty much everything except Lys in this!
A little aromatic softness, softness of citrus too. The palate’s not soft, it’s properly structured and mineral – that’s lovely – persistently mouth-watering too.

2019 Chablis 1er Côte Lechets
Greener fruit, more lime style. Extra fresh – super minerality – that’s my new favourite – so mouth-wateringly tasty but for keeping a while – bravo – super.

2019 Chablis 1er Montée de Tonnerre
A nose with more padding – but from the barrel – demi-muids of 6-7-years-old. The cushioning of the oak is visible in the texture and flavour too, but that’s a comfortable complexity. Keep this a couple of years to minimize the oak – if that’s what you want. Very good and very long!

2019 Chablis Blanchots
2.12 ha owned here.
A fuller nose, a little floral in this extra complexity. Mouth-filling, fine texture, a little touch of tannin, holding a super sustained finish.

2019 Chablis Les Clos
A nice aromatic vibration. In the mouth too – energy, less depth of richer texture, only at the very end is a little barrel visible – but only a little – I expect in 6-12 months that will be gone. A very good, very Chablis, wine.
