Here is an old family domaine in Chichée, practically all but one small parcel of land – that came through family inheritance – is in and around Chichée.
For almost 3 generations they were predominantly producing cereals, until 2010 when they decided to plant vines in further parcels of land that they owned which were within the Chablis AOC – today they have 21 hectares under vine in Chablis plus some 1er cru. They could even do another 15 hectares… The work in the vines is their current priority – rather than selling wine – so only about 5% is actually commercialized by the domaine in bottle – often in salons – and there are none of those for the moment. So most of their production is sold in bulk – Regnard, for instance, are one of the major customers of the domaine.
Bruno’s two sons, Quentin and Firmin, are also working in the domaine today…
Bruno on the most recent vintages:
“Recent vintages have been reasonably easy for us in the vines – though periods of frost and dryness are more frequent – yet the work in the vines has been relatively easy.”
The wines…
My first visit here and I’m happy to report all are very good to excellent wines – great prices ex-cellar too!
Cork for the 1er cru but all the rest with DIAM. First, the wines that are currently for sale at the domaine:
2018 Chablis
Elevage a little less than 12 months as there’s not the space to have two vintages in the cellar at the same time.
Fresh, a little depth, golden, slightly sweet fruit, not fully open but still in good shape. Supple, with plenty of concentration, lots of depth to this flavour – plenty of energy too. I like the finish. A delicious 2018.
2018 Chablis 1er ‘Adroit de Vaucopins’
The correct lieu-dit name where the vines are situated
That’s a lovely nose – it has depth and a slightly reductive minerality – lovely. More open, mouth-filling without overt density. The flavour is young and mineral, with a little base of tannic grain. Finishing with fine width. For the vintage this is a super wine – very tasty and certainly still a little young.
2017 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
Old with lots of court-noué, ‘very rich as we had a very low rendement’
A small note of development – though the nose certainly isn’t fully open probably due to the small tasting glass – but it is very attractive. Hmm, in this vintage not too rich – wide, mineral, lovely texture – it could have a touch more energy, but hardly necessary. Mouth-watering – very excellent wine
2019 Chablis
Bottled in April
A big ‘poof’ of fresh aroma – vibrant and with a citrus, almost agrume style of fruit. Ripe but fresh citrus, a richness of silky texture but energy is plentiful here. Simply a very tasty wine.
2019 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
Like the last, that’s a nicely open, forward nose of fresh citrus complexity – yes! Concentrated quite perfumed wine, tons of flavour here, almost covering the minerality. But the finish is long, layered and concentrated – and also very good…
2019 Chablis 1er ‘Adroit de Vaucopins’
Less round, but wider, nicely insistent citrus here. Mouth-filling, mineral, beautifully mouth-watering, a nice touch of finishing tannin. Simply delicious and long. That’s excellent 1er Cru.
