Adeline on 2019:
Fewer grapes than in 2018, similar degrees. The fermentations were fine, long, but much like 2018. The 2019s were not significantly touched by frost – there was some but we prune late so it wasn’t a large effect. The dryness of the summer had its effect though – about 45 hl/ha just a little less than on 2020. The biggest loss was from grapes grilled by the sun but that was worse in 2020 – it wasn’t a surprise that the volume in 2019 low after the big volume of 2018 though.

The wines…

The first two wines have a slightly ethereal quality to them – not to mention purity and deliciousness – but add some extra richness and concentration and you have the great last two wines. Always a high-quality, if a shorter, visit.

Although a few some bottlings have been done, all these wines were tasted from barrel to be bottled in April 2021. The 2018s were done in May 2020 – a little later but only because of the logistics of having all the necessary materials to hand during the covid-lockdown:

2019 Chablis
That’s a fresh and attractive width of aroma. Wide, with lovely mineral energy, nicely mouthwatering. That’s a delicious wine.

2019 Chablis 1er Les Beauroy
‘Similar terroir to Côte de Léchets, but a bit more argilles blanches. Otherwise, it’s the same exposure, 400 metres as the crow flies.’
Deeper, more aromatic, slightly floral. Here a slight grain of tannin, a little more intensity go the flavour too. Thats a super finish – completely delicious.

2019 Chablis 1er Cote de Léchets
A brighter, yellow fruit nose. Supple, more concentrated, a little richer but with a beautiful blend of purity and energy. So wide and so persistent, despite the richness, thats great wine.
2019 Chablis 1er Montmains
‘Actually its Forêts but I didn’t want confusion with the similar label of Vincent Dauvissat,’ says Laurent.
A deeper nose here of vibrant and wide minerality. A touch more tannin at the base of this, a fine intensity but its a more mobile and mouth-watering flavour profile. Great finishing again. Another great wine.
