As always, when I arrived Frédéric deep in the mechanics of a tractor – “You know, because I’m organic, and ploughing, everyone wants help to do the same…

Frédéric on 2020:
2020 is a bit like 2018 in terms of fermentations – the degrees were higher and half finished their fermentations as usual, the other half of the tanks were much, much slower – I had a similar experience in 2018 – it is rare for me but I had to add some yeast to the slower ones.

Frédéric on 2019:
A year without frost and the year passed well – 20 was more complicated with the vinifications but 19 was good. It looked like lower yields but a little rain before the harvest helped – we are organic and never have high yields so I’d say it was good year. Son, Victor, is now in his second year at the Lycée and has done a stage in Brouilly after the one with Quentin Perroud.

The wines…

Despite having to spend so much time in his mechanic’s workshop, a super result here – some wines worth a special search.

As always the ‘standard’ range of wines wear the name of Frédéric for contract grapes, Des Ronze for the domaine wines, the ‘natural’ wines showing the name of Victor:

2019 Domaine des Ronze Coeur de Regnie Bio
Traditional, destemmed, the cuvée that’s typical of the domaine
Plenty of colour. Red fruited with a little roundness. Mouth-filling fine energy and freshness – lovely line of flavour and texture too – Fine and almost juicy finishing with a touch of salinity. That’s a delicious wine for the summer…

2019 Morgon Charmes
The first vintage for this wine – organic – it was bought in 2016. A second parcel will be organic from 2020 too – an area with big rocks in the soil – it’s very classic Charmes says Frederic.
Plenty of colour. Super silky wine, direct, a faint extra sucrosity in the flavours – an extra richness to the flavour. Delicious finishing. That’s a great wine – the nose has to show more but it has concentration and moreish lingering flavour with more than an accent of graphite minerality as the last impression. Potentially bravo!

2019 Beaujolais Villages Blanc Domaine des Ronze
Organic of course here. Father only made red so this is a new adventure for me, the vines are, of course, young – two parcels one here in La Ronze, the other in Lantignié which will have it’s own organic cuvée next year – this is only La Ronze
A nose of depth and some vibrancy and a little mineral rigour. In the mouth, there’s a good combination of freshness and concentration – the slight rigour of the nose is apparent in the flavours too – but the super texture and mouth-watering side of the wine makes for a nice balance. This is very drinkable wine. I’d say very good BJVB!
