Nathalie on 2019:
We didn’t make the rendement – but then we never do – about 42 hl/ha – and we had a little VCI from 2018 – this is a viable level in Chablis. I think it’s an interesting vintage, warm but with a more interesting balance than the easy to drink and enjoy Chablis of 2018, which I think are more for neophytes than the wines that Chablis-lovers search out.

Nathalie on 2018:
As said, I don’t make the rendement but in 2018 I had 72 hl – 60 for the normal rendement, plus 10 complimentary (VCI), and 2 for the pumping et-cetera. We went on holiday 14 August with such tiny hard grapes, I wasn’t convinced that we’d have much to harvest, but was shocked – I don’t know where the juice came from. Early September harvesting – 10th.

The wines…

Always a great address – their last two wines just need to come together more – the potential for great wines is there. Otherwise excellent – as expected!

All natural cork – a real ‘family domaine’ from Spain:

2018 Chablis
Normally about 12 parcels are assembled here, and this cuvée would represent about 65% of the domaine’s production.
Some weight yet this nose is a little compact – lemon-fruited. This is a very citrus-infused wine – fresh and quite exciting. Round rather than direct but with lovely energy – a little young today. This is excellent villages and long too.

2017 Chablis Les Serres
The long elevage cuvée here. Bottled same time as the last – the cuvée with 2 years of elevage – two to three parcels, often the same – based on tasting.
A tighter nose, just a little smoke. Ooh, here is more direction, a bubbling undertow of energy, a slightly harder – not too hard – structure too – this more chiselled. Very delicious and properly saline finishing. Excellent – with a great finish!

2018 Chablis Les Serres
Of course, this the best part of 12 months away from bottling, staying on lees in tank.
Some lees on the nose. Hmm, nice line again really a zesty agrume here – broader than the 17, great finishing. This is a beauty

2018 Chablis 1er Vaugiraut
Two parcels; one of 65 years, a third in volume, and the other part, 35 years old.
Some width, tighter below but also exciting below with a little vibrant minerality. Hmm, this is rather less sweet, finishing agrume skins, be patient but this has super length too! Certainly excellent, this could be even better!

2018 Chablis 1er Vaucoupins
1949 planted. A third of the vines of the domaine are masalle with and average of 50 years of age.
Also quite a small nose, but with some interesting faint floral notes – very attractive. Fuller, plenty of concentration, a weight of minerality too – not quite in balance with each other today – like the last less sweet, more agrume skin bitters finishing – excellent again and potentially bravo.
