Baudoin on 2019:
We can compare with 2018; the main difference is the rendement of course – 18 was very generous, 19 definitely not! The 19s will be richer – but both vintages are quite ‘solar.’ In 2018 we had a little rain, in 19 we really didn’t. I think given its concentration, probably 2019 will be the better vintage. The 19s are not yet racked of-course, but that’s my current sentiment.

Baudoin on 2018:
I would say that I’m happy. The clients are very happy too.

The wines…

Well done Baudion these wines are completely delicious and even sometimes great for the vintage.

The first wines are sealed with DIAM-equivalents, the VV, 1er and GCs are with cork:

2018 Petit Chablis
This wine sees elevage for the same length of time as the 1er cru.
Hmm, that’s got a lovely combination of fresh clarity and just a little touch of the floral too. This is wide, and beautifully mineral, that’s a super PC – bravo! Very long with a fine finishing agrume fruit.

2018 Petit Chablis La Perle
A later bottling with longer time on the lees. A quality clone that delivers a lower yield – – normally more round.
A hint less floral and a hint more direction – but also pure and bright – you know it’s Chablis. Wider, more insistent minerality, but with a balancing cushion from the few percent of barrels that are used – virtually no barrel flavour though – more composed and elegant, perhaps a higher touch of salinity to finish too – really excellent!

2018 Chablis
Hmm – that’s a good nose – mineral and round but not shaped by the barrel – good freshness. Ooh – excellent – fresh, mineral, beautiful clarity. Less saline than the last but still a little. Bravo villages Chablis, in the usual elegant but not too cushioned style for here.
2018 Chablis Vieilles Vignes
0.38 hectares of 65-year-old vines normally with a smaller yield and of course a lot was lost to the frost. Elevage like the Perle – a little longer…
Hmm – this is great – a nose of such inviting salinity. Extra depth of flavour, edged with interesting flashes of fruit – deep flavour, fine of texture, lovely mineral finish. Great 2018!

2018 Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
1 hectare of vines.
Hmm – that’s got a little extra – a fine and mineral complexity that has lovely purity too. Wide – good concentration – melting with great mineral flavour. Not overtly saline – except for the very end of the finish – but absolutely and overtly delicious and very Chablis. Excellent, even a suggestion of delicious mandarin too.

2018 Maison Chablis Vaudésirs
Bought as grapes. This bottled in December.
A narrower but much deeper and more concentrated impression to this nose. A really beautiful shape in the mouth – ethereally mouth-filling, slowly adding a little richness – adding in flavour complexity, even a little salinity in the finish. Faintly suggesting some barrel in the end, but that will soon be gone. Simply excellent grand cru.
