Emilie on 2019:
“2019 is a good vintage, correct in terms of quality and volume when compared to 18. We didn’t make the rendement as it was so hot – 52 hl/ha – I think we have a good vintage, a normal vintage, though we had to acidify a little. I think it’s going to be lovely vintage – the malos are not yet finished though.”
Emilie on 2018:
“2018 was a superb harvest – both quality and quantity – despite that we were also hailed on 9 June on one hill. 2018 is a very tasty, gourmand vintage after the more structured more serious 2017s – they taste great – after 5-6 years who knows, the 17s will last 20 years but let’s see about this.”
The wines…
A good and delicious range of wines from the sisters in 2018.
Currently, it’s all ‘technical corks’ of Trescases just at the moment – there was a time with DIAM but then one cuvee had a problem and the bottler and DIAM were blaming each other and it was really difficult to get a resolution – so today it’s just Trescases… There are also plenty of screw-cap from this domaine too. ‘Both work well, it really depends on the market acceptance.‘
2018 Petit Chablis
A bright, pretty, fruity invitation but less obviously from the region. But lovely freshness, nice fat too – the base of this wine, it’s feet, are clearly in minerality – long, tasty, delicious wine.
2018 Chablis
More width of Chablis freshness here – it’s a nice nose. Fresher, more direction, more salinity. Nice weight in the middle too. Long, mineral finishing with a little coating of warm weather to ease across the palate for neophytes.
The last two wines were bottled in November, the following tasted from tank:
2018 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
Bottling to start in February
A perfumed nose, plenty of mineral depth too. Rounder, but with a depth of concentration. Wide, lovely rolling flavour over the palate, with ripe boiled sweets and freshness. That’s a lovely finish. Yum!
More vibrancy of minerality on the nose here. A little CO2 so extra vibrancy here too – but this has super energy and complexity – delicious, energetically mouth-watering. Love!
Fourchaume needed racking, so will taste another time.
2018 Chablis 1er Homme-Mort
Fresh, wide and mineral, faintly floral. Lovely drive and energy here – proper, fresh, citrus acidity Chablis. The finish is juicy and long. This is excellent!
