Fred on 2017:
2017 for us is a good vintage.

“We produced a regular vintage volume, and the quality looks really good. We were a little frosted but the 1ers were protected. Really the damage to our parcels in 2017 was very low.

Fred on 2016:
2016 was complicated here!

“There was so much hail here in Prehy – in 17 of our 22 hectares it wasn’t possible to harvest. Overall, we produced 60% less wine – for example 2,000 litres from over 2 hectares of St.Bris. But the grapes that survived were good, also our vines in Chichée weren’t touched.

The wines…

So much to commend/recommend – lots of excellent wines but some great ones too.

2016 Bourgogne Côtes Salines
Chardonnay from St.Bris, plus chardonnay from next to Prehy but just outside the Chablis aoc.
A wide nose, of freshness but a meaty depth riper fruit. Some gas, but directly this is open and showing a fresh, fruited, mineral style that’s really very tasty – very mouth-watering and just a little different – Yum!

2016 Petit Chablis
From 1.3 hectares in Préhy, but only 1,200 litres produced…
A more up and down – high and low-toned – wine. Silky and fresh, great direction, fresh deliciously mouth-watering and mineral flavour. Long too – such a great vintage for PC.
2016 Chablis
From Préhy and Chichée – 6 hectares in total.
A deep nose, and vibrantly mineral too – yes! Bid volume – every place is filled, melting, concentrated but fresh and alive – ooh this is so good! Bravo great Chablis!

2016 Chablis 1er Vosgros
Two parcels, one in Vosgiros, together about 0.45 ha and with about 25 years of age.
More high tones, practically a little fumé – really mineral. In the mouth really mineral too – so mouth-watering, great wine with some salinity too but wait a minimum of 18 months before thinking about opening a bottle! Excellent!

2016 Chablis 1er Vaillons
Bought in must and vinified.
Ooh – this is very attractive lots of pure and complex, fresh notes – attractive notes – drink me it shouts! This is wide over the palate, complex too, really juicy wine – you should wait again, but maybe only 6 months for this one – super Vaillons!

2016 Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
42-year-old vines in one single parcel, planted in 1975.Back to domaine wine
Deep and vibrant nose – ‘yes’ minerality with a touch of agrume to balance! A little smoky reduction but such a great complexity – agrume / citrus skin – a very modest rigour like the others so don’t drink straight away, but this is long, mouth-watering and oh-so complex – yes!

2016 Bourgogne Rosé
Pinot Noir some skin contact and directly pressed – the pinot from Prehy with a little from St.Bris too. Mainly sold in US
Wide, weighty, quite nice notes. A nice line of freshness and minerality through the core – layered and with a little salinity. Really the freshness here over-rides the inherent richness of a pinot-rosé this is very tasty wine indeed – yum!

2016 Irancy Les Mazelots
1.23 hectares that produced ~1,500 litres – so about 12 hl/ha
A deep and wild nose – but no césar in this! It’s a really dark and concentrated nose, showing turned earth – with air the nose is becoming more classic and beautifully fruity. Big in the mouth – lots of wine, a little astringence to the texture – big wine again – slowly becoming calmer as the flavours slowly fade in the finish. I find this hard today and would wait at least 2-3 years before returning to see how it’s softened – or I would splash decant and wait a couple of hours!
