Eleni on 2017:
“In 2017 we were 3/4 frosted. Chapelots which is 2/3rd of the domaine lost over 80% – the worst of Chapelots still had nothing green in May. We did everything by hand, the first time. But the quality looks great, the analytics read like from a book – something to look forward to. One cuvee which was previously sold in bulk is being kept so there is a little more wine than it first sounds!”
Eleni on 2016:
“In 2016 we can only be happy, we have a little more than half a harvest, but there are only two cuvées because of the weather – more the hail than frost – but I much prefer these 2016s to the 2015s perhaps that’s more in my head, because everything in 2015 was hailed 1 week before we wanted to harvest. Anyway, the 2016s are in barrel, and we will bottle towards the end of March.”
The wines…
Such a quick tasting, as only two wines remain from 2016, but really as good as anything you can find in 2016 – a little twist of ripeness to the fruit but an energy that vibrates from these wines – great stuff!
Over 35 years old vines.
Hmm, nice wide, fresh aromas – there’s a ripeness but a freshness too. Bright, classically proportioned, citrussy, melting flavour. Tension – delicious villages – bravo!
No Chablis Les Pargues this vintage.
A massalle selection that are 60 years old. Sulfured just 10 days before.
A nicely vibrant nose but yes a little sulfur today. Wide, fresh, vibrant, almost electric – a tension of almost reductive mid-palate flavours. Just sooo good!
