Eveline on 2023 & 2022:
“2023 was a bit more generous than 2022 – but there was quality in both. Both present well though our 2022 are not all bottled at this stage – the parcel selections will be bottled in another week – but we still have 4 wines to taste. As always, our bottles are sealed with natural cork*.”
*All are individually checked for TCA:
The wines…
Perfumed, excellent wines in 2022…
2022 Viré-Clessé Chazelles
South of the Viré appellation. Bottled end of July after foudre and few demi-muids and barrels for elevage.
Hmm, that’s got a nice and direct clarity of yellow citrus. Mouth-filling – really a volume but complex and energetic too. Really wide with a perfumed complexity – lovely!
2022 Viré-Clessé Vieilles-Vignes
North of the appellation. A mix of parcels for this one.
A more airy width of attractive fruit. Faintly grained frame but no dryness just a beautiful direct flavour such clarity here – I love it!
2021(!) Viré-Cless Clos de Buc
A clos only 200m from the last wine, quite high – 0.30 ha of older vines – 80 years old – under the forest so it’s a cool place. A family purchase in 2017 – grey-blue marne here. Only released after 2 years in bottle. Lost 50% this vintage – so the wine is concentrated but still only 12° – ‘we didn’t chaptalise.’
Super perfume – a few higher tones. Faint gas – open, easy, mobile but growing in intensity and salinity – this is quite special – even a little creamy from the concentration – really persistent – simply excellent wine.
Le Red:
2022 Bourgogne La Chapelle
Pinot from Burgey, bottled very recently.
Direct, spiced – more pepper than from heat. Very wide over the palate – an intensity to this floral-infused flavour. Surprising me by its length too – lovely wine!
