Lucie on 2022:
“All the bottling for the 2022s is done – a part was done just before the harvest and the rest (mainly) in October. I think we can be happy with the volume in 22 – certainly compared to 21 – the volume for the 2023s was good too.”
The wines…
Delicious, excellent wines in 2022!
2022 Mâcon-Vergisson Sur la Roche
A modest intensity but still an attractive width of aroma – part done in 400-litre barrels. Starting silky, but with a small grain of tannin framing the ripe flavour – round, a little generous, slightly sweet. But really tasty finishing.
2022 St.Véran Les Chataignières
A new cuvée here – 30-year-old vines in the commune of Prissé. 25 hl foudres for the elevage.
Here a hint of salinity to the aromas. More mouth-filling – cooler, fresher in style. More obviously silky and with super finishing intensity, very slightly floral accented. Delicious wine…
2022 St.Véran Les Cras
In Davaye, opposite les Creches
A fine and airy citrus complexity – all barrel and 20% new – but the aromas don’t show it. A supple width – cool-style fruit a little like the previous but broader rather than rounder. Large and also very persistent – love that finish!
2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Haute de la Roche
Only part of their Sous la Roche got 1er cru status – this is the part that didn’t due to it’s 400m altitude
The broadest and most complex nose from these 60-year-old vines. Really a wine with some power and concentration but it’s largely the minerality that speaks – the width here is pure mineral – today with some rigour – so I’d be keeping this for 5 years before opening – potentially an excellent wine.
2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Croux
A new cuvée the vines not ‘mechanisable’ so all done by horse, next to Les Crays
Hmm – the most approachable nose of width and fine complexity. Also a wine that’s wedded in its minerality but still with plenty of sweetness and supple flavour. A little less rigour than the previous wine – you should still be patient but this will drink easily before the last wine.
