Nicolas:
“2023? – who isn’t happy with 23? There were a lot more grapes than in 2022 but mildew came too, we still ended up with 55-60 hl/ha which was superb. The 2022s are all bottled – the ones that we will taste – we also have a 21 too!”
The wines…
Some exceptionally delicious – too easy to drink wines – from Nicolas in 2022 !!
All the wines cork-sealed:
2022 Bourgogne Aligoté
Vines from 1936 a massale selection at the bottom of the hills
Hmm – some concentrated yellow citrus width here. Large scale in the mouth – but hardly anything to destabilise the large-scale flavours here. Hmm – delicious.
50 yo vines – bottom of the hill with some deep clays.
Slight orange zest aromas here – rare but always welcome! Large scale but at the same time silky – that’s lovely – waves of fresh welcoming flavour. Love it – bravo!
1936 vines – the three oldest parcels of vines that are always assembled – no barrel always with a long, cool fermentation.
This nose is quite shy but there’s a small floral accent hidden within. Hmm – more vibrantional energy – what a growth of wonderful intensity of finishing flavour – vin dangereux!!
2021 Mâcon-Verzé
Extra depth of aroma – more open than the 22s today. Hmm, cooler fruit of super volume – more incisive too – also a wine that’s really too easy to drink and finishing so well – that’s a beauty!
