Peter on 2023:
“Hail – more than 50%. I like the juice but it’s too little for the vintage – all my friends have volume…”
Peter on 2022:
“I’m happier! And the wines have got nice balance – wine made without sulfur except for an addition before the bottling. All whole-cluster – semi carbonic – and bottled in April.”
The wines…
Wines like the man – frank, engaging. They are delicious too!!
2022 Plutonic
Half Syrah and Gamay, old massale selections of both on granitic soil. Usually harvested at the same time, the syrah destemmed, the gamay not. Elevage still as a blend.
A nice width of silky, cushioned fruit. Mouth-filling and energetic – really vibrant finishing in the middle and finishing flavours – lovely red fruit complexity here – yum!
2022 Mâcon-Bray Rouge Mégalith
South-facing, old-vine gamay with 500-l barrel elevage.
More colour. Extra freshness and a little floral accent. Mouth-filling, vibrant again – the tannin that frames this flavour bringing a hint of dryness – but hardly any grain – a core of sweetness. Long and slightly graphite minerality in the finish. Long – give it a couple of years to round out – but it’s already delicious!
2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Balancin
Pinot on argilo-calcaire soil – also whole cluster with a classic barrel elevage.
Hmm – beautifully aromatic – airy with fine herbs too. Despite the width there’s some direct style to this – a bit more strict but that’s a positive – and the finish is a long caress!!
